When I come to link a build which includes a scripted object, the whole object takes on the scripts properties. For example my home has a scripted opening door which I'd like to link all together but when I do, the door either opens upwards or worse still the whole house moves. How would I link them together without this happening? Or would I have to have the door as a separate object? Would I have to rez them on their own then place the door in the opening every time?

One of the main thing that matters is which prim is the ROOT prim. If the door is the root prim, then the ENTIRE linked object will twist and bend as the door does.
Also, the door needs something to rotate in reference to. You also need to make sure that the door is setting only its OWN rotation.
There are reallya lot of ways to accomplish what you want. Me, I usualy make the door a sperate object from the structure. 'course, I can't fix a script I can't see.

Here's what I do when I want to use one of the free door scripts out there. I copy past the script into my own blank script to get around the unknown creator problem. My name remains on the project. Be aware that any sounds you use for the door will also have to be your own too. Then I link the house after deselecting the door. After that I select the door as well and take copy. The door will rez in place with the structure. Good luck!
