occasionally a prim (not the same one over and over again but random ones in a build) will go phantom on me even though it is not checked off as phantom. i usually notice this as i am falling though a floor or walk through a supposedly solid object. the only way to fix it once this happens that i have found is to make a copy and delete the old prim.
i also noticed today that these "bad" prims can not be re linked to a build once i unlink them, i get the "link failed because the objects are too far apart" message.
anyone encountered this? any suggestions?

I have encountered this as well. The only fix I've found is to replace the prim as you said.

I usually change the Hollow feature for the prim with this problem and it seems to fix it. Just change it to something different and back to what it was.

It is a very common problem, and has been bug reported repeatedly. Still no fix on the horizon.
Short term workarounds:
Duplicate the prim and delete the original.
Change the hollow of the prim and change it back again.
Either will usually "fix" a bad prim and make it linkable and no longer oddly Phantom.
Two prims in the same plane and overlapping will occasionally cause one of them to become partially phantom. this is a different bug. Resizing so they no longer overlap fixes it.

This use to happen often to me, but it seemed to be only if the piece of the object I was working on was linked. For 8 months now I have always unlinked my build before adjusting individual pieces and then when satisfied (or tired) I relinked. It hasn't happened since I started doing things that way. A few tweaks of a prim through edit-linked object seem to be ok but much more than that is almost certain for me that one will turn phantom. Shayla.
