Sandbox building frustration...

I don't know if this is the right place...

Ok, so I'm minding my own business, messing with the sandbox to build some things for myself. So I'm there, and all of a sudden this weird object comes and start following. What's worse is it's nudging and wont go away, flying or running unless I TP out of there.

So I did TP out and went to a different one, only to find total jerks firing their weapons and the ammunition will nudge me too.

Got out of that one and went to another, only to have these weird hollow cubes with animated original batman series with an annoying voice. What's worse of this one, is that it multiplied and surrounded me, not letting me move. TP'd out of there...

They should have a program for sandboxes that will immediately turn off and delete everything that is not saved or have annoying scripting such as reversing the gravity or building overly large items that take up the complete building space, not letting anybody build.

I'm new to SL, and I honestly think that these sandboxes are totally abused by it's privileges. Does anybody else experience this? What do you do in these situations, or do you recommend any nice quite sandbox areas where there really isn't any abuse.

thanks.

Sandboxes can be a mess..

Rez a cube and make it into a floor - 10m x 10m x .5m

Rez another cube - don't resize it but do move it to about the center of the floor cube.

Link them together.

Sit on the small cube.

Edit the floor, change the Z position to 400

Stand up.

Enjoy building in peace.

Hi Groovdafied

I rent some parcels in Explorers Rangeland. It has quite large sandbox with reasonable supervision. I have a lot of fun there. Of course, guns and other annoyances are not allowed there. Management is shared by Australians and Americanx, so between two timezones the supervision is quite good.

I also operate my own private terraforming sandbox in the south eastern corner of Explorers Rangeland, usually cleaned up once per day, where anyone is welcome!

LOL welcome to secondlife its been that way for 3 years just not as bad
best thing is to build on your own land, or join a private building sandbox

So you're saying to build a virtual room to build in? That's genius! I will try that.

How much is the renting of the parcels? OH And is 1 meter squared cube the same as one meter squared of land?

I've never had a problem at the Furnation sandbox. That is, until prime time rolls around with ugly lag. One of my favorite sandboxes to build and wander around.

Granville, if it's still there, was fairly empty the last few times I was there (months ago).

Other than primarily Furnation, I have several friends that let me build on various lands owned. I clean up after myself and I'm not a trouble maker.

So I'm guessing that people who create these annoying stuff are just there to annoy? Man what losers.

For just the shaping part of building, I go to sandboxes that have all scripting disabled. A lot of time goes into just fitting the prims together, so the no-scripting sandboxes are ideal for that purpose. Once I'm ready to add scripts, I pick up the whole object, try to pre-write as much as possible, then go to a relatively small sandbox that does allow scripting, test the scripts on single prims, then rez the whole project and fit the scripts into place.

I am not the landlord or sim owner, but looking at his "for rent" signs they are $265 per 512 plot, and you rent by the 512 parcel. Some plots seem rented for long periods (I have been there almost a year!), other plots seem to rotate far more frequently.

What is good is that about 9 of us renters/visitors/exrenters have been appointed estate managers and able to manage trouble makers. That makes it a nice pi to live in.

A 512 parcel is generally 32 m by 16 M dimensioned. You can build as high as you like. Since the sim has sim owned pathways separating rows of parcels, the renting signs are not part of your sim count and each 512 parcel allows 117 prims, just like mainland, but pathways are nice to have.

The first thing I do when I get to a sandbox is rez a cube, sit on it, and move it into the sky until I get clear of crap. Then I set busy, and when prudent I set max particile count to near zero. This seems to work pretty well. I'm not sure why LL decided to combine their playgrounds, subsidized housing and test servers, but that's the way it is. One good thing is that almost all of the people who try to bother you have very short attention spans. If you give them no attention, they go away.

Whenever I need a sandbox (too many prims for the shop on my land) I choose the least popular sandbox and it's usually completely empty. I could count on one finger how many times I've had a problem with griefing with this method.

Now when traffic goes away...just remember the place you found that was empty I guess.

Scriptbot
05-07-2007 14:52
That was a scriptbot . There's the "fun" one with a short batman (old, 1960s tv version) clip on the side and an annoying bubidy-bubidy sound/song to go with it. Will push you all over. Then there's the ever-annoying banana phone bot.

Some funny people build those things and let 'em loose in the sandbox and hilarity ensues.

Builder's Skybox
05-09-2007 12:11
You might find Builder's Skybox handy. You place it on the ground, sit on it and you'll be shown a menu, select the height you want and you'll get tp-ed there, if you're happy that you're in a clear part of the sky just hit Rez from the menu and it'll errect a large private work area you can build in. Later on when you've finished just sit on the cube again and it'll clear the work area and return you to ground. There's a couple of extra options but that's the gist of it. Available free from Crystal Gadgets (Babeli 128,128,0).

Hmm yes Hilarity.........

Maybe yes if it was new, but generally it's just the same replicating batrap cube, failing penis or banana phone you'eve seen 20 times before.
Occasionally some of SL's truely gifted may learn how to change the textures to hippe weed slogans or george bush...........

I use the Harbinger sandbox - free textures, few people and no sign of griefers. It's a great place.

my favorite sandbox is flyintails airfield, their sandboxes are 600-700mt up
in the sky with very low lag and not really populated.

im assuming that the sandbox this was in was the weapons testing sandbox,

they always have spamming and annoying follower scripts and now a invisible
cage that follows you and traps you and you don't know it until you try to move
also anything you touch might deform your AV and you would have to relog
to fix it, sometimes theres a script running that fling you high up in the air or
have you bounced from prim to prim,

but despite all of that, the weapons testing sandbox is one of the few places that
you can go to test some scripted objects W/O getting banned or suspended.

The worst thing I find with sandboxes is there is always this noise like a squeaky toy going on. Do they put that sound there to stop people hanging about longer than necessary? Anyway it stops me concentrating.

How about just turn the sound off, launch Winamp in the background and play music you like from your HD or the internet instead? Unless you have to listen to everything going one while you are building, or you are writing scripts using media, of course.

Explorer's Rangeland is a nice place. I have rented there and spent many hours building things, met some nice people there too. I use a sky platform to get a bit up in the air, as I do not really appreciate curious people hovering about looking over my shoulder.

I have been griefed at Explorers, but very few times, so I do not consider it an issue. You can always report them if it should happen, though. Last time it happened, it was a fresh n00b who obviously thought of it as fun to bump me around with some kind of silly looking cannon =) I just TPed out of there and continued elsewhere, no big deal.

I usually go to the NCI sandbox and have only had one annoying occurrence where someone sprayed me with particles then sent the batman box over. I turned, looked at the guy, and he stopped the script. I then turned back to my work and wasn't bothered again.

I did have one at the Ivory Tower sandbox where a guy came and sat on the top of my sculpture, but I found that to be amusing since he only did it for a second and then sent me a greeting card.
