Is there a hack or control for keeping the camera view from popping up when going into edit mode? I know I'm not the only one annoyed by this dopey default. Also, is there a place to find collected hacks? (I'm waiting breathlessly for the Oreilly book to come out!) What I really want is a way to edit in mouselook... Thanks

If you use Keyboard shortcuts to enter edit mode, you don't pop into camera view. You can use ctrl-3 for edit, ctrl-4 for create and ctrl-5 for land edit. LIke you, I'm annoyed by going into camera view when I hit the edit button, so I use the keyboard shortcuts exclusively.

You can easily turn off the auto camera movement in your preferences. Here's how: - If you're already inworld, click on the word "Edit" at the top of your screen, and then click on the word "Preferences", or if you're just starting SL, click on the "Preferences" button on the startup screen. The preferences window will open.
- Click where it says "Input & Camera".
- Under where it says "Camera Options", uncheck the boxes next to "Automatic Edit Camera Movement" and "Automatic Appearance Camera Movement".
There ya go. Now the camera will stay wherever you put it until you move it yourself.

Thanks for the replies-very very helpful. You folks are angels. I will make good use of both techniques!
