Hello,
We are in the process of taking all of our objects (which are individually owned) on the island and changing the permissions over to a specific group. Is there a way to do this without selecting each and every object? We have many buildings/items placed in the world and if we fly to high it wont let us highlight select them.
Any ideas? Thanks everyone.

It sounds like you already know how to change group settings for objects. Yes, you will have to select all the objects, but you can do it in chunks while you're still on the ground. Pull up the "Advanced" menu by hitting [ctrl]+[alt]+D and turn off camera and select range constraints. Then cam back using [alt]+click dragging to get a wider view of the objects you're selecting, to into build dialogue, and draw a window around a chunk of the objects. (^_^) Expect the result to be hit-or-miss though. I've had to update large chunks of prims before. I don't know if it was packet loss or what, but some of the items selected didn't go and I was later watching the autoreturn start eating them up. I was freaking out because I thought it was being manually done but nobody was around. I was really happy with the fact I was taking copies of everything while I was building... Otherwise that would have been an disaster. (>_< ... (^_^)y

As stated abovem turn off the limits on camera constraints and select distance.
For the prims, it's fairly easy. Open the building tools, and make sure on the Tools menu that you have "Select only my objects" checked. Then click on one of your objects, and start drag-selecting to include more things owned by you. I tend to fly in pretty close, so the LOD culling doesn't cause you to fail to select small stuff like pictures on the wall that aren't linked to the building. Once you have a large block of your stuff selected, you can "set" them all to the appropriate group at the same time. Note that for 99% of the items, there is no need to DEED them to the group. Setting them to that group is all that you need to prevent autoreturn from group-owned land.
The bad news is, drag-selecting doesn't work for Linden plants that you may own. So, if you have any Linden plants that also need to be set to group, you'll have to shift-click on each plant to add them to the selection group. Then proceed as above.

From: Ceera Murakami I tend to fly in pretty close, so the LOD culling doesn't cause you to fail to select small stuff like pictures on the wall that aren't linked to the building. In other words, if you are too far away to see the object (or it is too small to be drawn at that distance), you will not be able to select it. That has gotten me a number of times.

Deeding objects to group
09-20-2008 20:42
I have built some original content on my friend's sim. I am the owner, but it is set to group. She will be dismantling the sim shortly, and I don't want a mess of garbage to hit my lost and found when she does. If I select my items, and deed them to the group, would that give her enough control (she is the group owner), and allow me to bow out now, instead of in a month, which is when she will begin dismantling? Will I (as a group member) be able to "select only my objects" on group owned land?
Thanks,

It depends on what you want to accomplish: if you just want her to be able to move things around (or take them to her inventory as long as they're not no transfer to you) then granting her mod rights would work (make sure you understand all the implications of that), or making sure the items are set to a group both you and her share and check "Share with group" (lets anyone in that group "Take"/"Take Copy" the objects as a downside for anything that's not NT for you so watch out for that). Everything will still end up in your lost and found at the end though
If you want to deed items they'll still come back to your lost and found unless you have C/T permissions on the items and set next owner permissions to C/NT before deeding in which case everything will just get permanently deleted on return. Anything that's already NT for you can't be deeded so "Share with group" (preferable) or "mod rights" is the only solution to let her move those but they'll still return to you eventually.
Smaller linksets (poseballs, chairs, etc) won't get highlighted from a distance since the sim won't add those to your interest list (the viewer won't know they exist unless you're within a certain distance from them) so a whole bunch of little things will likely escape mass-selecting so you'll still have to hunt for those around the sim. Linden plants will also not select that way.
Unless there is absolutely nothing on that sim that you care about getting back (in which case you can just delete anything that hits your lost and found when the sim is cleared) it would just seem to be least time-consuming to clear things up manually yourself when the time comes. You'll spend less time deleting things you don't need and take things you do need then you'll spend time deeding/"sharing with group now" and you'll still get inevitably get a bunch of things in your lost and found to sort through anyway after all that.
