First let me say that i am not good with computer programs and installing add-ons.

I recently downloaded the latest version of Blender and have the latest version of Python too.

I downloaded Primstar and tried to follow the installation instructions but I am unable to find the .blender\scripts folder so that i can add the scripts to it. I have tried the suggestion of pasting the lines of code into a text widow in blender and hitting alt-p but that throws up a python error. Windows XP will not allow me to create a .blender folder either.

Any suggestions ?

blender 2.6 ? hmmm... Did i miss a time warp ?
Whatever that is, you should use blender-2.49b.
And then follow this tutorial:

http://blog.machinimatrix.org/2009/12/07/the-blender-basic-customization-guide/

The tutorial has proofed to work on windows, vista, linux and mac-os ...
I heard rumours that blender does not like 64-bit operating systems, but
i do not know if that is true or not. there also seem to be some problems with
primstar on MAC-OS, but again i can't tell exact information here. On Windows-XP
primstar-1.0.0 with blender-2.49b is just fine (for me).

Sorry i must be getting old.lol

i could have sworn it was 2.6 but you are right its 2.49b

I just watched your tutorial on setting up a scripts folder....... GREAT!!!!!!!!!

thats much easier to understand than trying to find a non existant folder in the blender directory.

Thanks very much Gaia

Update.

I followed the tutorial and it works perfectly .... Thanks so much i spent hours trying to sort this out without success:(

And a big thankyou to Domino for the scripts and all her hard work

That is a very handy tutorial, Gaia! That, along with the others on your site, has been helping me a lot with learning Blender.

Presumably, that lesson on setting up a personal Scripts directory does not eliminate the default scripts directory in any way? When I installed Primstar myself, I didn't have any trouble locating the default scripts directory and adding the primstar scripts there. But I also didn't use the default location for the app. I installed mine on my D: drive, where I have lots of room for development projects, rather than with the rest of my apps on the C: drive. So the default instructions from the primstar site for installing primstar on launch didn't work, and I had to add the path information, or do it manually.

I am glad to hear that our tutorials serve their purpose ;-)

As far as i know, blender always looks up first in the user scripts directory. If it can't find what it searches, it continues to look at the system scripts directory (the default directory) and if it still does not find what it looks for, it gives up.

Maybe i can add one thought about the location of the userscripts directory:

If you have one, you can install several versions of blender and point all of them to your scripts directory. You never have to reinstall your scripts collection and you always have vanilla clean blender installations.

On the other hand, if you are curious and try out many things, it is nice to have several user scripts flders. I just can point blender to the scripts collection whixh i currently want to use without messing around in the installation folders.

So having a user scripts directory is a wonderfull thing ;-)

2.49b is the latest stable release, and 2.5 is out in beta. I haven't checked out 2.5 yet, but from what I'm hearing, the interface has gone through alot of changes. (ugh, an another interface to master!).

Serve their purpose! That's hardly a way to describe them. Your tutorials are not only educational, but they're a joy to watch. You've melded the world of Machinima and Tutorials together into enjoyable videos that are both educational and fun. Having jumped into the world of tutorial making myself recently, I can appreciate the effort your team puts forth in making yours.

While mine are typical 'vanilla' tutorials, I've been striving to improve the audio and video quality and I think I'm finally getting there. The latest tutorial I've made seems to have the main issues I was having solved. The audio is high enough to hear, and a makeshift earpiece foam taped onto the mic has solved the windscreen problem. I'm also going over the tutorial several times before actually recording it so that mistakes are kept to a minimum. I'm learning fast, but I certainly don't have the time, resources or people to put together the sort of high quality presentations that your team does. I would however like to start adding titling and such.

Just checked my YouTube dashboard and my first tute is up to 193 views, and the latest one posted 2 hours ago is already up to 38! Not huge numbers, but not bad for 2 days and 2 hours respectively. :)
