Hi again,

I've tried my hand at all this sculpting stuff, and just can't grip it. So now I'm looking for good places to buy sculpties. I'm looking mainly for flower shapes esp. roses and bluebells... does anybody know where I can buy them from, with full perms? I want to use them in some builds I'm making, and plan to sell those builds..

Or a REALLY easy to follow tutorial??

Try the Products Wanted forum. That's what it's there for.

Working on one. It won't be for flowers in particular, but it will contain enough generic information that you should be able to apply it to anything. Look for it in a few weeks, assuming I don't get too bogged down with work.

Since I started sculpting using a good sculpting program, everything about sculpting has changed for me. Blender is what I as using at the very begining, and they always came out odd or off. I've started using Zbrush recently and sculpting is a totally different feel in Zbrush! I couldn't afford Maya at all, but I've heard it works even better for sculpting for SL too. For me, the difference between sculpting in Blender and Zbrush is huge...my Zbrush sculpts defiantely put my Blender ones to shame.
I don't know what program you are using and I don't suggest running out and buying Zbrush or Maya, Zbrush is pretty pricey itsself..but I do recommend maybe picking up a copy of the Zbrush trial to test the waters of a program that may be put together a bit better than what you are using.

thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!

I didn't even notice before that Natalia had a section on sculpties. Playing with wings 3d now and it's much easier than I thought...

I was trying before to draw shapes from scratch ~_~ This is much easier!!!

Blenderman!!!

...wherever blender bashing begins!
...wherever keyboard shortcuts are forgotten or gruesomely misused!
...when the greatest open source 3d suite in history is trampled upon!
...when polygon counts will bring other paid programs to their knees!
...wherever 3d hobbyists are wishing they just took the time to learn it instead of dropping hundreds of dollars on eye candy...

Blenderman will be there!

He he. I resisted answering the post as it was about personal experience and not really Blender bashing, just relating problems she had using it. It seemed a bit redundant to point out the improvements I've made to the workflow of making sculpties in Blender as they already have a solution they like.

Don't worry though, in a few more years the impact of OLPC creating a whole new generation of python programmers will be felt. As the idea of web application mashups moves to local application mashups, how people think about computers and applications will change and open source will become more and more attractive.

Already the idea of a Gimp / Blender mashup to improve the texture painting in Blender (and to give Gimp a Blender style UI) occasionally crops up.

Then there's fools like me who ponder the possibilities of using Blender's game engine for a simple SL client for navigating to builds and using the main Blender interface for editing them ;)

Sua (or anyone).. how do you go abotu exporting the sculpy map from Zbrush?

Also, what do you start out with? a sphere. cylinder, cube, ect, and are there any dimension specifics?

I've asked in the zbrush forums, but no one replied there at all.
