I was trying to create a face light last night...an invisible light source that would attach to my AV and follow her around and light up her face in dark places. (Reason: I'm cheap and didn't want to pay $L 350 to 600 for a commercial model).
No matter what I tried, I couldn't make the light emitting prim completely invisible. For one thing, the maximum transparency I could get was only 90%.
I also couldn't get it to be a Phantom object. I can check the box, but the check mark fades out after a second or so.
I'm just a noob at building, so I'm pretty sure it's something basic that I'm missing. Can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

You need a full alpha texture. Iknow that Natalia at Sirena Hair & fashion has one on her freebies section, but you can probably find them all over.

Thanks, Capella. If that's all it is, I can create an alpha in Photoshop in about three seconds. No problemo.
What about the "phantom object" problem? Any ideas on that one?

From: Lindal Kidd What about the "phantom object" problem? Any ideas on that one? Any scripts in the object that might be setting the parameters to non-phantom? That's about all I can think of.

I sure don't think so. It's a simple sphere and I rezzed it myself. No scripts.

If it's an attachment, you don't need to make the prims Phantom. All attached prims become phantom when attached.

Here's a quick script that will make your prim invisible without needing a texture (this is just faster loading than an alpha texture). default { state_entry() { llSetTexture("5748decc-f629-461c-9a36-a35a221fe21f", ALL_SIDES); // The UUID for the default "blank" texture. llSetAlpha(0.0, ALL_SIDES); // Makes all sides totally clear. llRemoveInventory(llGetScriptName()); // Removes this script from inventory } }

Jillian, that's wonderful!
Now...do you just happen to have a script lying around that will turn the transparency on and off, to make it easier to find and adjust?
(I'm just learning about building...hope to eventually be able to animate...but scripts are a huge dark galaxy for me, and likely always will be. I can't seem to think like a computer.)

err why would you set 100% alpha texture and 100% transperancy ?, Just set it to 100% Transperancy , dont use texture for setting entire prim invis, its heavier to render a alpha texture then a prim set to 100% Transperancy This is not recommended to use for setting a prim invisible; llSetTexture("5748decc-f629-461c-9a36-a35a221fe21f", ALL_SIDES); All you need is; From: someone llSetAlpha(0.0, ALL_SIDES);

Its there to remove the plywood texture so that it doens't have to be loaded.

You don't actually need a script for that. You can higlight transperant textures, including invisible ones, in the view menu. View --> Highlight Transparant or, CTRL-ALT-T
