My object, not my permissions?

I just created an object, but now I can't modify the permissions for it! I set all the textures to blank, and there are NO scripts in it, but it's still set to no mod, no transfer! What the heck!

Anyone got any suggestions? I can copy it, modify it, link/unlink, but just can't set the perms.

I was the only person who touched the item at any point during the creating. It was created from all new prims, also, nothing rezzed and modified :-)

is it linked to something else by mistake?
just go into edit mode, look at the objects window, how many prims does it say?

if it is multiple prims you will need to edit each one for setting properties (this is not always the case but sometimes this happens to me with multiple objects)

other than that, no idea

It's unlocked, I did check that too. I can link/unlink, modify, move, delete, copy, just not transfer. I can post an SURL if anyone wants to inspect the item.

Honestly, at this point, I think I'm just going to create a brand new item, just copy and paste the rotation, dims, etc, into the new prims. That should solve the problem (a thank you to the kind girl who helped me figure that out :-)

*waves* welkies :)

To people following the thread: for some odd reason the base permissions (Client / Debug Permissions to see those on the Edit window) for all the linked prims (and Ayden does show up as the creator for each prim with "Inspect";) and hence the whole was V/M/C/NT (V just means it can be moved).

---

Actually, Ayden, I remember seeing you in the "prim docker" group when I first IM'ed you but then it slipped my mind after since it took you a while to IM back and I forgot to ask later :o.

Did you actually use "Build" to rez the very first prim? Or did you rez the prim with a scripted building aid like "Prim Docker"?

If you used a building aid to rez the prim, make sure that the basic building block(s) it rezzes are indeed full permission prims or you'll keep running into the same problem.

On the contrary to what Rhaorth said, you have to make sure you're not "editing linked parts" (and likewise don't "select texture";) otherwise permissions are typically grayed-out. That's not likely to be the issue though as these always turn off every time you re-enter Edit mode.

I wonder what happens when you shift-drag the object. Would the duplicate put in its place be editable?

I would like to see the outcome of this, because I just got done building a rather elaborate house, and cannot do anything with it. It has been created with intioent to put up for sale, but the permissions will not allow me to do so. I took no steps any different from anything else I have built, and have never encountered this problem.

I am thinking that my only choice might be to completely "Unlink" the house and check it prim by prim....

UGH!

had occasional issuess using shift drag to copy prims, sometime the new prims would show odd permissions... seemed to be a viewer issue as relogging fixed it last time it happened

I did not say "edit linked parts" I said edit each part (meaning unlink)

when this has happened to me (and I have been building in SL for over a year) if it was multiple pieces I had to unlink, set permissions on each one then relink (or just rebuild it)

only happened a handful of times but it has happened on items that are my own, complete from basic rez etc

Kitty, I did rez them from the build tool. I only use primdocker on larger builds where alignment will be noticed considerably more.

I just can't figure out what glitch caused this in the first place!

It's definitely a mistake on your part. You probably put something in along the way that modified permissions.

If you have built it yourself and not used anyone else's textures, scripts, content etc, then it should definitely not have permission problems.

If you have put inventory in it, might I suggest using the following script, which I wrote specifically to check permissions on inventory in all prims:

Then explain to me how I rezzed each and every object, and set all the textures to blank, and still couldn't modify the perms?

LL had to have hiccuped, at some point.

happened to me more than once too, be editing an object, switch to another, come back previous object is now no-mod... no changes, just borked permissions... bad packet from the server, viewer borked, who knows... re log seemed to fix it right up ::shrug::

It's happening to me too. I'm on a Macintosh and I tend to switch my user login while being inWorld and I also log in from several computers. I wonder if this has anything to do with it.

This happens to me when I leave the "next owner" perms at default and make a copy, or take it into inventory and re-rezz it later. You also have to be careful of the perms on textures, scripts and prims in the contents of other prims.

Spot on Annabelle -- I had to rebuild a pair of shoes 4 times to get the perms squared away.
