Open Source Project Idea

Hello all! I just wrote some code that I think would help all people who rent out rooms to other people (and therefore the people renting the rooms). I was thinking about 'copyrighting' the idea and then selling the peripheral that allowed you to do that, but I think that would be a moral disservice to the real estate commumity. The thing is, is that if I go open source, there will be people who take code from the project and call it their own, and resell it. I dont like when people do that, but I think its 'right' to make my project open source, if I can gather a team of scripters to collaborate with.

Can I have your thoughts about this, and generally going open-source/script? If I finally decide to go open-source, I would like to form a little scripting team that will pass around their versions of the script. I wont post details now, as I am currently in a state of undecidedness over posting the script; any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I am 99% open source. Nearly everything i write, i am totally willing to share, and if i am not willing to give you the script(i have 2 at the moment that i will not give people a copy of), i will spend the time helping you write your own. bbc is totally open source as well, i believe. if you are going to go open source, then you should send it to peter for the scripts only, so that it doesn't get lost amongst all these post here.

lol, amen to open scripting, i believe it, more than ANYTHING else, is the major pillar of a community. Mind you, I cant script, so my opinion isnt exactly devoid of self interest, but...At anyrate, Im thinking of putting up a large area in Lindenburg dedicated to all things free, so if you ever want to add to the limited collection, or would like to build your own free script shop, you could use preowned land (and you wouldnt have to pay rent or taxes on the land). That actually goes for anyone, if youd like to contribute free stuff to people, your place in lindenburg is, literally and metaphorically, free.
