I'm still fairly new at building, but I use the copy method and copy the floors to get the walls. That way they're lined up and already the right size - mostly.

Use the floorplan to get a rough idea of what walls your building will need, and where they should go. If you build walls first, you might build yourself into a corner.

The FIRST thing are to do a sketch on a plain paper IRL.. with notes like a mind map about what you want in every room.. and around.. all kinds of notes..

Then put out the floor.. plus boxes for each ”idea” around the house to see it all in front of your eyes - if it work on your land or not..

Good Luck...

Just to shed my way of doing things here...

I get all my idea from www.dreamhomesource.com.

When I find a home I like I grab the first & second floor blueprints & take them into photoshop and make sure they line up on each other. Save each one seperately & upload them to SL.

I have created several "build pads" that I start with (30x30, 50x50, and 50x60). The top textures on these pads have been stretched and aligned so that when a texture is placed onto them, it stretched perfectly onto the whole pad. I apply the lower blueprint first and from there it's simply a matter of dropping walls where the plans say to. :)

IM me IW if you would like a copy of these build pads.

Cheers
Syn

I guess I do it backwards... I've always built the walls first. Sometimes, I'm not even sure where I'll put the floors, or how many. I just try to build an interesting shell first and make it unique. But I haven't built much that survives more than a month or two anyway.

definatley floors, know your limits, know the size of the plot where this house will be shape the floor area to a size that will fit on ur plot (asuming its for your plot) then just build up from there

Heh...wow...everyone else here is so organized in their building...

...I think of building like art--grab a shape, manipulate it...grab another, manipulate it...and somewhere down the road you'll have a finished work. Walls, floors, windows, etc...just build 'em as they make sense.

I usually build a floorPLAN first, but the actual floor usually comes after building the walls. Depending on the build, the floor might end up being the same prims that had the floorplan, just retextured, or it might end up being completely new prims.
