Pretty much the title...

Ordering an island and got stuck, what is the difference between region name and island name? I get what the region is, same as sim, but estate?

Can these be changed?

Read all the faq and Knowledge base stuff, nothing clear.

I placed this topic here because I found no other forum that seemed better, if there is tell me.

Thanks a bunch!

There is a spot in the help menu for ordering that tells you the difference. If I remember correctly, the region name is the name of the specific sim. The estate name is the name of the collection of sims (assuming you have more than one sim that will be part of the "estate".) They can be the same....

Region = sim.
Estate = hidden association between all sims of a group.

Here's a breakdown of Caledon for instance:

Region names:

Caledon
Caledon II
Caledon Highlands
Port Caledon
Caledon Tamrannoch
Caledon On Sea
Caledon Moors
Caledon Cay
Caledon VictoriaCity
Caledon Carntaigh
Caledon Lionsgate
Caledon Primverness
Caledon Loch Avie
Caledon Mayfair

Estate name for all of the above:

"StateOfCaledon"

Note that you will never see the estate name in-world - it just doesn't show.

So, what can you do with an estate name?

Well, when you give an estate manager "estate powers" you give them "by estate." That is, in Caledon's case if someone has estate powers, they have them in all the sims listed.

If I had two different estates, or perhaps even a different estate for each region, I could divide up who had estate manager powers, and where.

Also, when you ban a user, you can choose to ban them from "This estate" or "All estates" - it gives you some degree of control.

I don't see a lot of use for estate divisions other than say, if you have entire sims renting and you want to give users access to estate powers in *their* sim but not others. Or, if you have 200 sims, and need to have provincial governors.

This is my understanding of it all - though clearly I am not really using the tools much and may be missing something. If so, someone please add or enlighten.
