Could just be the 'random something-you-want-to-do-crashes-SL bug'. I recently had it with my door rotation scripts (had to ask my guests to open and close them for me else I'd bomb). Seems to be mended now though. Course, there may be a more concrete answer to your problem than this, but hey I'd go for 'don't do it for a while and one day it won't be a problem all of a sudden', but then I'm probably jaded! Okok, on a helpful note, though it may not connect to your crashes, a linked object can't get any smaller if any of its parts are 0.010 big. That's as small as scalling will go. If any parts are that small, enlarge them before resizing using 'edit linked parts' (even totally out of proportion) then shrink them down individually after you've resized the whole group of objects. An object in a linked set being too small will stop you being able to shrink the set, but I've never had that cause a system lock-up, so it may not help. I still go with the 'computers hate you and will do everything they can to upset you' answer.
