Are there any tutorials about for making waterfalls or rivers?

Mostly it's about texturing. Make a large sheet prim, texture it with water, and then put a script in it to animate the texture.

Look in the Library section of your Inventory. There are textures and scripts there for making water, for animating water textures, and for making particle effects for splashes and mist. If you look in the scripts, the comments in them give a relatively decent amount of how-to information for their use.

I think Ceera wrote a little bit about this before and I took away one of the most valuable building tips I've ever read.

When you put two prims together and use a transparency on them (like water squares), you can always see a seam where the two join. To get rid of the seem apply a transparent texture to each abutting side. When you put the prims together.. walla, the seam is invisible.
