I've been looking over the tutorials for both Blender and Art of Illusion (and plan to look at Wings 3D as well, but I think I'm starting to like Art of Illusion) and have pretty much come to the conclusion that for the amount of time I'll be able to put in, I won't be able to remember all the keyboard shortcuts that are being thrown at me with the Blender tutorials. Long run I'd probably see myself using 3D software maybe once a month or so after the initial study rush and that's too long of a gap between projects to hold all that knowledge in.

So ... is is doable to take a Blender .blend file, export it as .obj, read it in Art of Illusion, edit it there, then export it as .obj back to Blender to create the sculpt map? I know this is the long way around, but the sculpt tutorials I've looked at all use .blend files, and that seems to be the default sculpting environment for a lot of the cool people who are giving us these tutorials and .blend files so I think I need to keep at least some contact with that so I can keep up with the new techniques that are being developed to work with sculpties there.

I'm a total 3D noob (no problem finding my way around Photoshop & other tools, and I am technically inclined) - its just a question of time & focus), so yes, I will be trying to do this myself as well, but I'm afraid that I'll f--- it up somewhere along the line or miss a thing that would be totally obvious to an experienced 3D designer and then conclude "No its not possible".

Thanks :-)

Yeah, that'll be possible!.

and it's even easier to do with Wings!. Although there's a slight issue with the Wings plugin at the moment which I'm currently torturing its lovely creator over.
