Hi. I'd like to make some transparent textures for things like hand rails, floor shadows etc. I use Photoshop CS3 and wonder if the file should be saved and uploaded as a .tga file?
Thx in advance

Yes. 32-bit TGA works fine. Be sure that you have created your alpha channel correctly. Read the sticky notes at the top of the Texture Tips forum concerning alpha channels and transparency so that you know what you're doing. Then, if you have questions about why it didn't work (or did), post them over on that forum. Good luck!

Thx in advance As Rolig said but make sure you save your original file before save as .tga Depending on your method of work if you need to resize your original image resize it after save and then save as.tga selecting 32bit for textures with an alpha channel and 24 bit without. That way you are keeping your original file intact. Remember after save as .tga when you close the file you will be asked if you would like to save changes, always select no as this will overwrite your original file. Also, if you are flattening your image then don't bother for SL, it makes no difference other than save your disk space. Flattening your image will permanently merge all layers that were created and lead to the loss of the original image and layers. Either select all the layers that make up your image or merge them altogether as 1 layer then resize and save as .tga. When you save your original CS3 file .PSD, all layers are saved. At any time you need to make adjustments or edit the file you can open it in its original format with everything intact.

It's an easy question, Grace .... Are you having trouble saving the TGA file on your computer, or are you having trouble uploading it to SL?

.TGA files require some knowledge with what your doing when using textured with transparent backgrounds. to make everything much more easy~ you can simply save files with transparency in them as .PNG files. when saving a file as a .PNG it will give u 2 options before saving. (none) and (interlaced) select (none) and it will be saved to where you selected the save location. go within sl and upload it. and it should be just fine
