A virtual reality helmet which allows me to look through the eyes of my avatar in a 3D enviroment, as well as moving my avatars head around in the same motions. Built into this helmet I want a headphone/Microphone system with auto Speech to Text software so it will type what I say while wearing the helmet.

As an accessory to this helmet I want Gloves. These gloves will match my hands movements in the game, down to the fingers, allowing me to fully interact with the worlds enviroment, down to leaning over and picking something up.

Get to work people, Im giving you 3 months...

Linden Labs is going to have to deal with the multicamera, multiesthetic signal multiplexing...

As soon as they set the protocol, I will get right on the hardware...

What's my budget??

He could use the $2 to buy some paper clips and cotton balls then using the stick of gum, he could fashion the helmet and gloves for you. If he really is McGuyver that is...:)

I don't believe SL has the capabilities to move fingers, even using animations yet..

Here's yer glove!

I got mine for $20 CDN at a place called Entertainment Liquidators here in Real Life Toronto(TM).

In games that don't "support" it it works like a free air mouse, it's very neat. In games that do support it (like a modified version of Black & White) it works like you're putting your hand into the screen.

A very cool peice of hardware.

And yeah, it somehow works on the Mac too, but not as fine as it does on the PC.

Edit: I fail it! Trying to use HTML markup rather than BBCode or whatnot. Fixed.

http://www.emagin.com/3dvisor/html/LearnMore.htm

It's got stereo 3d at 800x300 (40 degree fov), built in headtracking, built in mic and speaker. I own one (ya cant have mine) and it's pretty neat.

Speech to text will have to be done in software. Suggestions?

Ya know I have often wanted this same thing...but I imagine it a step further. An entire body suit that can be worn and integrated into a VR world w/ sensory imput areas. And NO I'm not talking for cyber sex....not my bag hehe, but it could work for that too hehe.

Ok, we already have 3d thru EyeSore , though in projected form, not helmet. I personally prefer projected at the moment, helmets can get bulky and uncomfortable. Sure you don't get head movement unless you've got a CAVE setup, but take what you can get for the moment. :)

Speech Recognition is one of the things I hope to do with the new hooky. Since we've gotten keyboard injection working now, it doesn't seem like it'd be too difficult to convert speech to key presses. Hell, there are already a ton of programs that do this, we just need one specific to the SL client.

As for the body suit, well, someone else can work on that. I'm only interested in the cybersex version, kthx. :)

well, if we're talking about what we'd LIKE to have available I'd throw out text all together...

Idealy, we should all be able to hear avi voices mixed real-time by location Including all three axis ( could you imagine 3D audio so good you could sense avi chat BEHIND you? or maybe above and below you? it would tickle the hairs on my neck to witness)

Also, immersion should be complete with sensory points, full vision, a climate controllable cave for altering ambient conditions (snow sim anyone?) active wind fan systems, soundproofing encloseur to block out RL noises, feeding tube, excrement disposal, nutrient/medication/recreational drug IV connection point and customised perscription lenses....

then again, all that still doesn't help our avis MOVE AROUND THE WORLD WITHOUT LOOKING LIKE DRUNKEN IDIOTS BUMPING INTO EACH OTHER!!!!!

lol! Not even treadmills could help us with that, huh?

I guess there's always the Matrix-style full brain immersion but, i have a feeling few of us would volunteer for the skull surgery...

Now that I spent all 5 mins writing about a world that can give me all of that, I think i'll go explore the game i call RL. I hear they got the immersion thing down pat somewhat ;)

All I want is a little more ability to control animations from scripts.

I don't even need it in real time.

I just want to be able to start an animation from an attachment or a gesture with a positional and rotational offset, like you can with llSitTarget(), so animations designed for 2.1 meter "standard" avatars don't leave my 1.6 meter normal-height (well, for first life) avatar embedded in the ground (or even underground) or random seats, vehicles, or whatnot.

I'm quite capable of coding up a script to do the job, or modifying the Franimation overrider, or whatever... but without offset/position options to llStartAnimation() or gestures there's really nothing I can do from a script.

I'd also like to be able to specify "this animation, but only apply it to these bones, then that animation applied to those bones..." again because animations designed for 2.1 meter people with unnaturaly long legs don't look so hot on dumpy bodies.

Fix that stuff before worrying about new interfaces.

Well shesh Lefty...

If you want all that then lets just create holodecks to simulate the SL world, then connect all those holodecks together across the world, so that the resident of one holodeck sees the holographic representations of every other resident in their holodecks interacting with other representations of other avatars.

lol. ya know i always wanted a holodeck of course. But, i could never figure out how they handled movement in them! Maybe they explained it to a certain degree in one of the series because i never realyl watched it regularly but it always bugged me how they could move through a vast space (endless?) while still only really being in a sort of room.

anyways, i just wanted to throw that out there :)

Neuromancer scared me in that I don't trust that level of immersion :-? Too scarey if the consequences are brain-death lol... And yet... the idea is so alluring... I think if given the chance I'd take it no questions asked :P
