Is there any way of getting more prims for you land besides buying more land?
I heard that if I have a couple of pieces of land, you can combine the prim limit and build on one and not the other. Even if they are far apart.

Is this true or did I hear wrong?

Thanks for the help!

Take this with a grain of salt, as this is from another noob ;)

My understanding is that the prim limit is a technical limitation and as such I can't see how that would work. Servers can only keep track of so much. If my understanding is correct, the only way to get more prims in a particular land would be upgrades to SL servers, I hear rumors that havoc 2 might provide a larger prim limit . . . .

The short answer is that you have to buy more land.

The long answer is that a given amount of land can support a certain number of prims. If you want to use more prims, you can either buy land adjacent to your existing land, or anywhere in the same sim (I think I am correct about the last part). By owning more land in the same sim, you increase your alotment of prims on that sim and can place them on any piece of land you own in that sim.

I also think I am correct in saying that certain sims (particularly the urban sims on the old main continent) have a higher prim allocation per sq. meter of land than other sims.

Yup.. the default prim allotment is 117 prims per 512sqm of land. I am not sure on the ratio for the city blocks. And, just to confirm, you can own a 512sqm block in one palce of the sim and another 512sqm somewhere else in the SAME sim, and you can use ALL the 234 prims on one of the plots (aka. parcel), or you can split the prims however you like.

The idea is that you financially support a certain percentage of the land in a sim, and get the equivilant percentage of prims for that support. If you have 2 512sqm parcels next to each other, you can join the parcels together to form one parcel of land.. but you still only get 234 prims as a base amount of prims. Having it as one parcel means you can manage your prims easier and set music and video streams easier and all that kind of stuff.

There is however a bonus that you can get by "deeding" your land to a group. I believe the bonus is about 10% extra land (and consequently prims, if that extra land is bought) for the amount of land deeded. So if someone deeds 1024sqm of land to your group, the person who contributed the land gets an extra 102sqm of land that they can buy. Well.. it's a little more complicated than that. Anyway, the point is you can get extra land allotment, but in the end you still need to buy that extra land to be able to add prims.

Owned Land in Sim A = Prims in Sim A
Owned Land in Sim B = Prims in Sim B

You can't use the prims from Sim B in Sim A.

Hey, Owner,

Welcome to SL, and I hope you have a blast :)

The smallest land purchase you can make in SL is 16 sq. meters, which comes with a 3-prim allowance. If you get into scripting, or need a small one-prim roadside vendor, there are some neat things you can do with three prims. If you explore or look at the "Land for Sale" listing, you'll see small parcels have been labeled "prim support" or "prim land"...meaning their allotment, no matter how modest, is meant to feed a larger parcel owned by the same avie or group in the same sim.

There are, I think, four "urban" siims on the Grid with double-prim allotments. Land in those regions very, very rarely changes hands, and when it does come on the open market, it's always obscenely expensive....if I recall correctly, I saw a 117m plot in Grigniano on the market once for $50,000L. Also, I believe the land in those sims cannot be terraformed.

Depending on what you want to build, you might want to check into Azure Islands. It's a privately-owned continent with zoned building, and there are several land options, including renting property with boosted prim support. Other privately-owned regions may offer similar flexibility, but Azure's where my group rents (on Alpha Centauri), so that's the only one I know about for certain.
