I've got several prims linked together and I want to apply a texture over the whole linked object. However, it always puts one copy of the texture on each prim instead. Is there any way I can get the texture (say a picture) to apply once over the whole set of prim faces?

Unless something has changed recently, to my knowledge the answer is no.
What you can do however, say for example you are making a very large sign, chop up the texture into either even or proportionately suitable parts then apply each texture part to each prim part so that when joined it appears that there is only one texture across the linked prims. There are some scripts out there than can aid you in sizing textures for prim faces. Also you can look into the planar use methods. If it is not a sign and it is something more complex like a build, you can use the planar method to assign repeats per face to be equivalent regardless of the size of the prim. Personally I enjoy texturing and I have always just used the edit tab for my repeats with occasional planar use. Once you have all of your prims textured the way you want them save your linked object and it will retain the settings (most of the time ;P). So at least you do not have to repeat your repeats each time, .One thing to keep in mind however is when using 'select texture' for a single prim or face it is a good idea to also check the radio button for 'edit linked prim' that way you will not accidentally texture your entire build with one single texture. For those who may Not be trying to do that, .Hope this helped. _____________________

Apply the complete texture to each of the two surfaces.
Click on select texture surface (or something like that) on the left on the top half of the edit box. Click on the the first texture to select it - it should show a white circle. Make the multiplier .5, leave the other at 1.0. Click on the second texture to select it - it should show a white circle. Make the multiplier .5, leave the other at 1.0. Play with the offset till the two halves match. Woking from my wetware memory! Not in world to explain this properly - someone else might provide the exact settings! |

I have not tried it myself, but seen it demonstrated, and it looked great at what it does (exactly what you were asking for). |

A free tool for determining the correct offset numbers to use is Texture Calculator. It was written by Adrian Linden before he acquired that last name.
