How to box items?

I bought a JEVN vendor system and after careful reading I became aware that you have to drop the items you sell + a pic of that item in the server. But since I'm selling pics I can't just drop 2 pics in the server. Someone told me to "box" the actual pic I'm selling. But I'm totally clueless on how I should do this. Can someone help me out?

Mandy, make a simple cube prim, edit and go to contents, drop your pic in there, next go to general and choose For sale, set the price and click the 'contents' radio button. Drop that on the floor and anyone can buy it...
Instead of using vendors (whispers--- they cause lag).. put up your picture, set it for sale and choose 'copy'.. works better...

Ty AWM, but my store is very small so I need those lag causing vendors.

Hi! It's easy :) Just drop a building block on the ground, then go into edit, name the box the name of the picture, or whatever else you are selling.. make sure that u set the box to copy, other wise it will sell the item once and then the box will be empty.. Then click the tab all the way to the right, which is the edit items I think... and drag the pic from your invo to the box. Now this is where i am not sure how it is going to work in a vendor.. If it was just a free standing pic, u would set the price on the for sale tab.. But since it is going in a vendor, I'm not sure if you do that, or just set it to anyone take a copy.. Also make sure you have permissions set on the item however u want them, not on the box. Personally I think it is just easier to use free standing boxes.. Vendors can be confusing... Well for me at least lol ..
I hope this helps :)

Ok, here is another way... make a simple box prim, stretch it to the size of the picture, apply 'allclear' texture to the prim, use select texture and apply your picture to one face... check the 'All Bright' to make it stand out.. name the object to suit your picture... place that in your vendor.. it will be ultra thin as well :¬)

Why not apply 2 pictures to the same prim, one on each face, and sell a double pack?

Neither! If you put something in a vendor, don't set it 'for sale' and don't set it to 'allow anyone to copy'. All you need to do is make sure you can copy the item and the box it is in. A vendor simply registers that payment has been made, and then gives a copy of the item to the buyer, which is a different transaction from selling it to the buyer. Always read the notecard that comes with your vendor system, don't assume you have to set permissions one way or the other.

As for boxing things: create a prim, in edit go to 'content', drag and drop the item(s) you want to sell there. That works for prims, skins, textures, shapes, notecards etc etc.

Ty Suzy, that was a clear answer. Just one question...do I need to make a box for every pic separately? Or put them all in the same box with different names? Sorry to sound like a n00b, but this is my first time working with vendors and trying to box items.

If you're selling them separately, then one box per pic.

If you're selling them as a pack, but displaying one pic, them put them all in one box.

It depends. Do you want to sell your pictures as a pack? then put all the pics in one box. Do you want to sell your pictures separately? Then they each go into their own box.

The easiest way to look at it is this: when your customer buys something from your vendor, they buy the box with its contents. Never only parts of the contents of any one box.

Mandy? Perhaps I am mis-remembering something, but I use JEVN vendors, and when you set up the configuration notecard for your JEVN server's conmtents, you specify the exact file names of the pic the vendor will use, and the file name for the item that you wish to sell, as well as the price and whatnot. There is no reason why you can't have a sample pic that is watermarked (so people don't just thumb through your vendor and screen-shot your art), and a second "clean" pic that you sell them. No box needed. I'd differentiate between them by ending the vendor illustrations with -PIC or something standardized, myself. But you should not need a seperate box.

If you're willing to display a non-watermarked copy of your pics, you could just put the pic names in both places on the config notecard line. Then it will sell the same pic that it displays.

Now, normally I would use a box, so you can give them the pic, a landmark to your store, and maybe a notecard with terms of use for your art...

If I recall vendors require an "item" to sell, hence a prim object (or linked prims objects) determines it is an item...

correct me if I am wrong but I do not think they will sell pics and what not, if they do then I stand corrected and could be confusing it with clothing items... I know for sure you have to package them up

Ok, ty Ceera! I'll just "test drive" that today. See what happens.
