Hi,
I have made some very nice cone-shaped fire lamps, and i would really like to complete what I have in my mind with a wrap-around silver spiral which will act as a lamp holder.
I have been playing with spirals all day, and just cannot get the hang of them. I basically want a corkscrew spiral, then the ability to taper the spiral into a cone shape.
A corkscrew (or spring) spiral seems to have the following dimensions:
a) diameter of the tube or cylinder that the corkscrew is made from b) Diameter of the corkscrew when viewed from above (or looking directly into the corkscrew c) The distance between turns of the corkscrew d) The height of the corkscrew (how many turns)
Translating these into the coords and options provided is challenging to say the least.
To set two examples:
Imagine a metal cylinder that is 1m high and 20cm in diameter. Then take copper wire of 1cm diameter and wrap it around the cylinder in a spiral so that there are 10 turns around the cylinder.
Next, the same as above only the cylinder is replace with a cone, 1m high and 20cm diameter at its top (tricky, eh?)
Any suggestions how these requirements would translate into settings in the Build options?
First prize is a free sample of the finished lamp.
Regards to all, Rock.

If I understand your post correctly ...
- Make a torus, standard 0.5x0.5x0.5 size - Revolutions to 3 or 4 (this will control how many times it loops around) - Radius delta to 0.6 (this will control how much the resulting shape conforms to a cone - with 0.0 you'll get a cylinder wrapping, the higher radius delta, the more "cone-y" it will look) - Hole size X to ~0.3, Y to ~0.1 to get it more "wiry"
Then play with the Skew, Hole Size X/Y and Size X settings to get it more or less "wiry", change the distance between the loops etc.
Edit: to get it nicely tapered and pointy at the end, set Taper X / Y to 0.9 or so.
