Has anyone here figured out how to build Gothic Arches and matching inserts for them, using regular prims?
.........^ .......|**| ....|*****| ..|*******| .|******** | |********* | |********* | |********* | |********* | |********* | |********* | |********* | ___________ haha
I am looking to use some fancy tall stained glass windows that curve and then come to a point at the top, but do not like idea of putting them in a rectangular opening because it looks like hell. I noticed that most builds with gothic arch elements are basically just photographs of the arch plastered on a square prim.. blah bla blah...
thanks for input

Use a pair of cut cylinders for the curved parts, and a pair of cubes for the uprights.

What Chosen said.. just wish to say that the cylinders need to be kinda tall to get that shape (Proportionally tall), otherwise you just end up with a very slight difference from the 'one box one cylinder' style.

Here is one solution. 5 prims per arch, no overlaps, nothing but normal hollow and path cut manipulations. The green parts are box prims that are hollowed 85% with a circular hollow shape, and path cut to .625 and .775 For the glass inside the arch, use a simple rectangular prim, and let it penetrate the curved part.

From: Ceera Murakami Here is one solution. To revisit this, I tried the formula and was unable to make a perfectly fitting triangle into the top. A cad Model of this produced different results than those in SL prim-world. How many vertices does the circular hollow use? This could have an effect on where the 2 Cut Arch-tops meet.. I did manage to get really close to this with a 90% Hollow into which a triangle fit "almost "without overlap. Maybe I was using the wrong kind of triangle (?) Does someone have the exact dimensions for the triangle? I really am on a mission to get this perfectly predictable so I can make them in a variety of sizes and am able to match textures to the geometry.. \m/

For the triangle, I cut a cube to 1/4 of its volume, so the "top" of that triangle is the only remaining outside face. So the center point of the cube is the "down" point on that red triangle, and the other two points are outside corners. Then I just streached it as needed by eye to make it fit. (I cut it rather than tapering it so the texture wouldn't be distorted.) Alternatively, you could take a box prim and taper it completely in one direction, and again just streach to fit. Just make sure to use planar textures if you taper instead of cut. Default texturing will distort on a tapered prim face. Here's a recent build that I have been working on which uses a LOT of these arches... well over 60... This is Kirkpatrick Chapel, in the Rutgers University RUCE 2 sim, which I am still building.

Here is an interior of the back door of that chapel. By using planar textures and playing with offsets, I was able to get the wallpaper seamlessly matched across the prims. Here are the prim specs for the Left and Right sides of the arch (same part, rotated). And here is your elusive triangle:
