Hey all,

I finally have found my final resting place in sl! A nice little corner to call home... but I wondered if there was a way to make the grass greener? I see on some sims the grass is really lush, and when I click to inspect... to try get a clue how they did it, there is nothing is that because they are private islands?

Is the only way to make it lush green to use prims covered with textures? if so, would someone be kind enough to explain how to do that for me in laymans terms! lol

Thank you in advance for any help.

Ugh, crack your glass?

;)

Seriously though - Sim owners can change the overall ground/terrain texture within their sim. The only way parcel owners can change the ground texture is to place prims over it. If you have a large parcel of land, then you can save on prims by using a single huge prim (40x40) instead of several 10x10 prims.

I thought that would be the answer! oh well!

I wanted to make the grass look all lush and soft... kind like where the feet will sink into it... how the hell does that happen with prim blocks everywhere? :(

Particles for grass? Doesn't work well, I assure you.

I've installed "Prim Lawns" for clients. If you want a dead flat grassy lawn, they are OK. But there is no way to have a naturally flowing surface like real terrain.

You could use a lot of Linden "Beach Grass". One prim per clump, and scale the clumps smaller. Would take a lot of prims to do all that much, though.

Have you heard of Field of Dreams? Opinions vary on particle effects, but it sure is low on prims. In November of 2004 Jimmy Thomson started a thread with 100 replies called "Tutorial: Creating high density field of vegetation for your outdoor scene". It has links to a more complete tutorial at his website. You can also download four TGA files at his site, one of which produces a very lush grassland.

Look for posts by Laukosorgas Svarog in that thread. He lays out the steps for making it work.

By the way, does anyone know where I might find all 16 textures that Jimmy originally supplied?

the prim grass usually doesn't look good, but then again i'm probably biased because it's usually abused to the point of absurdity. i.e. floating in the water, big exposed vertical edges, anywhere in a snow sim. it could work on a well-manicured estate garden, but otherwise would probably look artificial.

Maybe you're thinking of the grass objects that land owners can place?
