Go into build, then click on the first prim you want to link. Hold down SHIFT and click on the other prims. Each prim you click will light up in yellow. When you've got them all highligthted press CTRL-L and they will link. To unlink highlight them and press CTRL-SHIFT-L.

Word of warning - the LAST prim you click will be the "root". You may, depending on what you are doing, need to select this carefully as it can affect the operation of scripts. If you want to name the whole object it is the root prim you need to name. There is limit on how far apart prims can be if you want to link them, I think its 30m.

And a warning from someone who repeatedly gets this wrong - be very careful you have linked all the prims you want and none that you don't want, especially if some of the prims are small. Its very annoying to do the link, move the whole object and find you've left bits behind because you missed a couple of prims.

It's even worse to link something, take it back into inventory and find that you'd linked it to your whole house, which has now disappeared. I moved a piece of furniture in my skybox on Saturday and dropped a girlfriend through the hole that appeared when the floor I'd accidentally linked it to moved as well. Falling 350m is a bit of a passion-killer!

To get around the problem of missing a prim that was buried inside of other prims, you can go into build and then drag a box around the entire object that you want to link together.

Then hold the shift key down, de-select the prim that you want to be the root prim and re-select it. that way it is the last prim selected and the entire linked set will carry the name of the root prim.

don't forget to go the edit drop down menu and "select only my objects" Your neighbors porch will prevent you from linking your stuff. :)
