I'm new to building and I have a question about snapping to the grid. I noticed things snap to the grid based on their center, is there a way to set it so it snaps to the edges? Also if you have any other tips on easily aligning and positioning things or on using the grid in general I'd really appreciate any advice.

You can't snap directly to the edges, but you can do it perfectly in a 2-step process. Here's how:

1. Snap the center to wherever you ultimately want the edge to be.

2. Change the ruler mode to local, and then move the object over to snap at the 0.5 grid mark. Since you've now moved the object by half its own width (or height or depth), its edge is now where its center used to be.

You'll find that this technique works really well for aligning prims of different sizes to be perfectly flush. Again, here's how:

1. Simply reference the first prim by selecting it and pressing shift-G (with chat closed). The grid units will change to become multiples of the referenced prim.

2. Snap the second prim's center to the first one's edge (the 0.5 mark on the ruler).

3. Change the ruler mode to local, and move the second prim over by 0.5. The two prims will now be exactly flush with each other.

This technique is fast, accurate, and the best part is you don't have to do any math. :)

Thanks, that works perfectly. I love the no math part. LOL
