Linking and Unlinking: A Tale in Frustration

OK, I've read the guides and boards here and I can't seem to get things to work for me.

Recently, I've bought something that is copy/mod/no transfer and I wanted to take some prims off of it. So I hit the editor and discovered I can't unlink anything. I can select and individual prim, I can move, rotate, or stretch it, but unlinking is never highlighted. I've known other people have been able to remove prims from a fully modifiable item they've bought. What am I doing wrong?

first of all check if it is locked. take the hook away if it is.
unlink with ctrl+shift+L.

but you said you can edit individual prims. sure it is linked? cuz you cant move individual prims if it is..

Yes you can, by checking the "edit linked parts" box in the edit wndow.
