Hello Residents! Linden Lab wants to create a few "theme packs" to offer new residents, and we need your help! Please drop me inventory items that you've created that may fit one of the following 5 themes:

"Starter Home" Pack
Think: Low-prim house with scripted doors, basic furniture like sofas & beds, security system, fireplace kit, gardening kit, etc.

"Xtreme!" Pack

Think: Sky-diving equipment, skateboard with scripts, snowboard/ski outfit, skate ramp, etc.

"Start a Business" Pack
Think: A slot machine, an outdoor marketplace structure, (help me out with this one).

"Social/Chat" Pack

Think: Gestures & poses, conversation-starting outfits, dance animations, a fire pit for long conversations, one of those keyboards that some savvy SLers use instead of "air typing"... again, help!

"Wack" Pack
Think: Exploding chicken, funny gestures and animations, weird costumes. I have a feeling that this will be a popular category. Bring it on, SL!

Details:

--DEADLINE for submissions: Friday 1/20 at 5 PM PST.

--Each new resident will only receive one pack, so please try to submit all kinds of things (props, vehicles, script-enabled stuff, outfits) for just one category. The Xtreme pack, for example, should include an outfit, some scripted objects, and maybe some gestures and poses--a comprehensive pack that will help acclimate a new resident to SL.

--You may submit as many items as you'd like, including just one. I will check them all out.

--Each item that is selected for the promotional pack will become copy-able but not transferable or modifiable.

--Each item that is selected will be exchanged for: L$2000 and owner credit on the SL website.

--You may submit an item that you are currently selling. It does not need to be original, but you must be the creator.

--When submitting your item to me, please put the "pack type" and your name in the title of the object.

Questions? Email me (lauren@lindenlab.com) for specific questions or post to this thread if you think others are wondering. I will respond.

Rock out!

How about a "Plain Mundanity" Pack?
These would involve things like a flippable picture book on the brief history of SL, an illustrated users manual for the SL client and a teddy bear.

How about a "builders" pack with stuff like: Alpha transp texture, invisiprim 1.1, the note on how to make miniprims, etc...

I was thinking a "games pack". My team has some puzzle games we would love to contribute.

How about a Paperback looking book to go in each pack called:

*101 ways to reduce lag but was afraid to ask*

Someone gather up a bunch of suggestions on how to set your preferences, how not to build with large textures, explain what some of the preferences are, etc. and not all text! People want to see pictures of their preferences and explained that way.

I know the forum is full of great suggestions but for the most part not all residents visit the forums. Hey, and maybe a link to here as well..

*as an example, when I first started I found a freebie lantern. I liked it so much I used it on every railing and pathway on my land. I later found out it had a script for light hidden in a prim. I didn't know a light script caused so much problems till I seen a post in the forums about it. No wonder I had a lag pit! It could of saved me a lot of complaining to Lindens if I had known that.
And to hit edit on the linked object, the lantern, didn't show me the script, it was within one of the tiny prims.*

People have been wonderful with suggestions, but if I would of received a nicely laid out guide when I started it would of saved me a lot of headaches and made my time in SL more enjoyable.

Your suggestions...

Thanks for the "building pack" concept. I had thought about doing something like this, but I didn't know what the pack would include, since it's for new users and some of the tools could be advanced.

We will be taking pictures of each item to help the non-SLers understand the value based on RL. A great example of this is the "paperback" concept that Clarrice mentioned. While the information may actually be a few notecards (an SL concept), it would be very easy for a non-resident to see a picture of a "101 ways..." book model and get it. Therefore, we'll want to attach most scripts, animations, and other intangibles to SL models.

Great suggestions. Please drop any building items or suggestions on me! I would love to check them out. If *I* can figure out how to use the building items, they'll most likely be in one of the packs. : )

Art of War pack.

Basics:

Hand Gun
Military helm
Rifle
Combat knife
Body armor
Combat Boots
Small rocket launcher.

Add some more, removes some, whatever the team decides. Weapons would be scripted with a firing code. Would help some builders who can nevr get their hands on how to build an actual weapon with the ability to fire projectiles.

Oh...and perhaps someone there could figure out a way to give an item a set rotation that won't go bezerk when you move it.

to the person below me, do not post if all you are looking for is a fight/argument, please.

And a "ready-to-post" pvp abuse report ? :D
No, please... anything but a pvp-starter-pack ...
