yes ive seen people needing help with the cartooney lines for ..numerous things but.. heres the guide Make a shape ,hollow it out, open it. Then when you can see the inside of the object select "Select Texture" select the inside..turn it into any color you want the outlines to be... then close the shape back up. Now select the outside part of the shape and make it Transparent (preferably using an Alpha/Invisible texture from PS or w/e paint program u use.

and then u should see the inside of the ball(basicly the color you made the inside) now make another object and just slide it in the ball we just made and bam ther you have it.. =D any help .. Contact me ( Shroom Control)

nice post shroom. I've also got an illustrated notecard on the subject in my merry-go-round building tutorial. It covers things like making blinking eyes, cell shading, texture manipulation, etc. People can IM me for a copy (it's full permissions, so all the prims, textures, and scripts are for you to play with).

For those who don't want to search the forums or ask for a notecard, cell-shading is achieved by the following steps:

-Rez a sphere prim, and apply the apply a full alpha texture (invisible texture)
-Hollow the prim, and cut it enough to access the inside face
-Using "Select Texture", color the inside face black
-Close the cut prim
-Copy the prim
-Unhollow the copy and reset the texture to "blank" - colorize to your liking
-Resize the copy to about 90% of the original
-Place both prims at the same coordinates

You're done.

Not essential but usually you'd set the prims to fullbright too. :p

I've only been successful using this technique on spheres... would it be possible to cell-shade any prim shape?

Not sure about all of them, I think anything that'll hollow out the same shape as on the outside should work. Some shapes got from manipulating prims won't work since you can't hollow them out.

Ah, drat... well, if any of y'all figure out any tips or tricks regarding cell-shading methods, drop me a line! I'm always interested in this sort of stuff =)

Yes, that technique works best for spheres, but the same effect can be achieved with cubes, cylinders and the torus... even a pyramid or cone would work I suppose.

A sphere, torus have entirely enclosed, hollow interiors. So, with those shapes you only need to use one prim for the black cell-shaded outline (as in the steps above). For other shapes like a hollowed cube or cylinder, you'll need to add two endcap prims. The endcaps needn't be hollowed, just give them the alpha texture and colorize the face which faces the inside as black. For a pyramid or cone, you would only need one endcap.
