With sculpties. Or by using mutiple prims.

Hexagon is 6 sides right? make a box, taper it in. copy it and rotate it to fit. Tada..

Create>box Taper X to whatever you need it to look like. Copy (Hold shift then drag on an arrow) it and rotate the second to fit with the first. Also move it together so it looks like one item. thats the best in-world way I can think of

EDIt:: Oh and link it. Select both (Select one, hold shift and select the other), then link with ctrl+l or by going to tools>link

Literally speaking, you can do a single prim with a hexagonal cross-section. Create a prism, cut it so that the difference of B and E is between .333 and .667, and hollow it (default/triangular). Voila, 6 sides. Of course, it's irregular and non-convex... but it has 6 sides. (ok, ok... only 5 from a texturing standpoint :p )

HEH, the weird thing here is a cylindar IS hexagonal. the roundness is a client based smoothing applied after the prims params are DLed. Wouldn't it be nice if we could just say "Don't smooth this prim" and have a whole nother set of prims to use?
