Leveling prims together

Hi,

How can I set two or more prims together but evenly? Or make 1 prim leveled like for a floor or stairs. I know I can drag another prim off the first one. But even like this they may not be leveled? They may be tilted more to one side then the other.

Let's say I pull out a prim for a rug so I open it completely then make it thin. Now I want to add another prim just like it to the first prim to make the rug larger. How can I make both prims at an even level together? This way one prim isn't tilted one way while the other is at another angle.

Thanks for any help.

Easy - when you know how (like so many things)

Keep your numbers simple and in keeping with the grid increments. When you duplicate the prim in the way you mentioned, pull your mouse away from the selection pointer (at 90 degrees - keep left button pressed) so that your prim starts snapping to the measurements. Move your prim until it is exactly adjacent. It's really simple if you understand the grid but if you don't then you must get to know it - there will be a tutorial somewhere...

Ahhh - tutorial here: http://secondlife.com/app/help/building/snappingtogrid.php - Don't know if it mentions it but there's a key combination to automatically align your first prim with the grid - anybody?

The other way to make a prim exactly adjacent is to select the prim you want to copy, then choose - 'create' - make sure the 'copy selection' box is ticked - then click on the appropriate surface of the prim you are copying (the surface you want the copy to appear joined to). Voila!

I hope I haven't got anything wrong in this post - but I haven't got SL on college computer (shame) and it's funny how something you do every day can be so hard to remember... Anyway, seems complicated to describe but 2 seconds to do when you know how...

I have no idea what you mean about level and tilt - they all start out completely in line with the horizontal grid so if you keep them that way you will have no problems!

Hope this helps - I started with some of the excellent beginners building classes in world :)

Thank You very much Cat.

I'll give a shot. What I meant when I said tilted is if by chance I roate a prim and now it's not level how can I set it so it's level the way it first comes out.

Thanks again for your help.

Set all the rotations to 0

Sure - just set all the rotations to 0

(Keypress to line up prim to grid is 'Ctrl + X' - also available from Tools Menu...

May the Grid be with you

I assume what is meant is that if the original is tilted then dragging a copy will not do what you want it to.... use local coordinates instead of world (option in the edit window)..

Shift + x will snap the prim to grid

ctrl + z will undo. or. place it back in the original position .

ctrl + d will "duplicate" the selected prim creating a new one at the same spatial point.
