Moving a large build

I currently have a large build (1200 prims and 60m x 90m) floating at 300 m. I would like to move the whole thing to a new level. Any ideas ?

link it all into as few sections as you can. then select each linked object and add or subtract the difference (i.e. down 100meters) to the z-coordinate.

The most reliable method is to get yourself a packaging product like Rez Foo. Once the build is locked onto the packager object, you'll be able to move it safely wherever you want.

Since all you're talking about doing though is changing the altitude of the build, you could probably do it by hand without trouble (I emphasize PROBABLY; anything can go wrong in SL). Zoom your camera out so you can see the whole build, right click on it, select Edit from the pie menu, and then drag a selection box around the whole thing. It helps to have "Select only my objects" turned on in the Tools menu, by the way.

Make sure you've got the whole build selected, and nothing else. Then simply drag it upward or downward to wherever you want the new height to be. 9 times out of 10, a simple move like that will work just fine.

If you're worried, got the Rez Foo route. If you're willing to clean up the potential mess if it does go wrong, move it by hand. You could also work by the numbers, as Parker suggests, and that will be completely reliable as well, but it can be time consuming if you've got a lot of pieces.

Thanks, I have used 'link and move' in the past but never on anything of this scale, also I want to go from about 300m to 700m so dragging doesn't seem an option :)
I will have a look at Rez foo (need to get a copy any way) do you know if is possible to move in one axis without disturbing the others !

One way I've used, although not on anything as large as what you're trying move, is select everything, then open the Edit dialog and enter a height value.

Yet another way I have had success with is select the whole set of objects and delete
it (a little scary perhaps). It will end up as a singular object in the Trash folder.

I'm super fussy about having my stuff laid on whole (or easy fraction) coordinate numbers, so I have a method I use for when I select a whole build to move it.

I rez eight 10x10x10 cubes at the corners of an imaginary box that I figure will cover the whole build, and have those set on "perfect" coordinates. That means that when I move the whole clunky build, I can be guaranteed that, eg, the floor, sits at 50 metres, not 50.647 metres or whatever.

I also use "hide selected" to click off pieces at a time (watch them disappear as they're selected) rather than relying on the drag select. Then uncheck "hide selected" and move the whole lot.

This method was super useful for taking a copy of and redeploying a 60x50x10ish rezzing platform covered with random signage and other carelessly placed frippery.

I hate when stuff goes off grid. It's like stepping on the cracks.

Link your objects into as few linked sets as possible. Then select all of the linked sets. Make sure the last object/set in the selection is named in a way that represents the whole building (this makes life easier when you're ready to re-rez it). Finally, with all the items selected, right click and choose more>take copy. The whole set of linked parts will appear in your inventory as a single object! Then when you are ready to re-rez, drag the object to your spot and there it is.

The other option is to use Builder's Buddy, (free script found in forum & wiki) OR buy Rez-Faux(600L) or Rez-Foo (2500L).

I'm using Builder's Buddy so far, with some success. Give it a try...
