I'm currently running out of object space. The adjacent land is for sale which I'm thinking of buying. Will they be treated as two separate parcels or will they become one? Plus will I be able to build across the border?

After you purchase the adjacent land, it remains as a separate parcel.
You can then go into the land tools, use 'select land', and join them together. The land tools is the icon with the bulldozer on it, right next to the build tool.

Thanks. So will my object allocation double to use across both parcels or not? Or just 234 on each?

Your total prims will be alotted for use on either parcel of land if you do not join them.

Once you join them it because one big parcel of land so the prims wouldn't be split.

Your prim allocation is only related to how much land you have within the same sim and doesn't need to be joined. You can build to your limit for the total of both the lots on any part of your land. The joining is just something nice to have. You can also join lots that aren't adjacent to each other.

The total number of prims you can maintain in a sim is equal to the total area of all the parcels you own in that sim. So after you buy the second parcel you will be able to maintain twice as many prims in the sim, distributed over the two parcels.
