Vlad, 2K...HELP

first off, thank you sooo much for the guidance, the tutorials, the tools, you both are so very appreciated!

ok, my problem, I made a creation, it has 5 parts to it....each part has 1056 points, all made with zbrush tools. Everytime I try to use my zsculpty addon, it crashes, z icon just sits there, screen goes a funny white and I have to completely reboot my system to clear it.

So I figure, ok, upload seperately..a pain being I'll have to reassemble and resize in sl...saved each part as obj.....open sculpty maker.....load one piece, nothing, sculpty maker crashes.

what am I doing wrong? I followed Vlads fabulous "Creating Multiple Sculpty Objects with zBrush" to the T...or as far as I know I did.

I saw another guy in the comments of Vlads tutorial had the same issue...but I never saw it resolved....helppp please!

ARRRRRRRGH and stuff!!!

Hi! :)

Well first things first - it's possible to use SubTool Master to merge your subtools into a single object and then feed the merged object to Sculpty Maker. You don't have to convert each one seperately.

But back to ZSculpty:

First check that your UVs are present. To do this look to see if the 'Disable UV' button is active in the texture panel. The panel can be found on the righthand side of the ZBrush window alongside the Geometry, Masking and Deformation panels.

Export settings correct?:

In the Export panel only the Obj, Qud, Txr and Grp options should be active.

If all of the above is correct then you're welcome to upload your object somewhere and drop me a link inworld.

more info 2K.....I checked the texture for UVS, they were fine, as were the export settings....this is what I have discovered

1. when making my object, one portion of it I divided several times in an attempt to get a bit more detail, then I rest it back to the 1 setting and deleted the higher ones. I only did this on that one piece.

2. I decided to try a test , made a basic sphere, 32/33, made it PMD..cloned it, ammended a second sphere, triwed to use the zsculpty...crashed, had to reboot.

3. removed zsculpty from my addons and replaced with a fresh one...went back in, made the sphere again as in above mentioned, cloned it, yadda yadda....hit zsculpty...it exported, YAY! Tried the original object, with the 5 pieces...crashed...rebooted again

4. made the same test spheres again.....same as before.....hit zsculpt...crash...reboot

so somethings not right, no clue why

I have zbrush 3.1, using zsculpt v1.02, as far as I can tell, all pieces of the original object fit the requirements with the exception that I did divide that one bit....could that have been the issue? I have remade this object twice now, first time I messed up, so I remade it....I so don't want to have to remake it yet again...though I have to say I learn something new each time....but, what if I remake it the thrid time and this all happens again :(

any ideas?

oooh, one more thing, can any of the brushes mess up the peice so it will no longer export? like the flatten brush and the mallet brush?

Not really..

Maybe you accidentally subdivded a tool with a mask enabled? I can't test it at the moment, but I'll try it out later to see if it kills my ZBrush when exporting.

Nah, none of the brushes add or remove geometry from an object. You could even use the MeshInsert brushes. They're pretty snazzy!.

That is what came to mind as I read the thread, too. But i guess if that was the case then the object wouldn't have 1056 faces anymore.

Odd that your zSculpty stops working on the simple object after the failed export attempt
I'll give the conversion a try on my system, too if ya like. Just IM me.

well, I gave up on the original object, seemed no matter what I tried it would crash and burn..ended up remaking the thing, making sure...in a very paranoid sort of way LOL...to save and try uploading at each step

I did manage to get the newest attempt to convert and it is now in world

Just wish I knew what happened so I can avoid that mishap again and also warn others of it

Again, TY you both for all that you do. I bought Zbrush and sat on it for 6 months intimidated as hell, you two gave me the courage and later the knowledge to make it work for me and I love it.

well, glad that you got it working. :) I know I have solved many software related problems over the years by just starting over. Maybe one of these days you will stumble upon the solution while dealing with a similar problem.

Reminds me of my learning process with the Make Polymesh3D button. took me several weeks to realize that pushing that more than once was ruining my UV maps. I've found that the more I use zBrush the less often these sort of mysterious bugs pop up. Just keep sticking with what works and add new knowledge and techniques as you go.
