OK here's what I am curious about. I have been looking into making prim armor, clothing, etc but being as I am told "unusually shaped" avatar I don't have even a remotly close idea of how others do it and keep "in shape" with others. How do most people determine what is a good size to make a shape from? Do they use the newbie one, a dummy, etc?

You pretty much have to design a lot of things for a specific body shape.
As a default, if you're designing for a Human, making a default new file (male or female), and I believe it should have all the slider values set to 50. That will give you a pretty generic starting point.
It gets harder if you want to design something to fit a variety of female breast sizes. For that, I would just pick a number of slider positions for various sizes, from flat to overly-endowed, and make 3 or 4 or 6 different versions that fit the differnt sizes.
Compensating for different heights and weights is probably not worth it, unless you really expect very tall or very short people to use that specific attachment set.
In some ways, it's easier to fit over specific prim avatars, like furries. Just get and wear that avatar, and use the default values as it comes from the maker. Most of those don't get a lot of variation in slider values, because the other prim parts don't fit if you do. But those also have a LOT of the available attachment points already in use.

Yeah that's what I was thinking but not sure and as for the female issue..you hit mine on the money. I'm tall, wide shouldered, and big chested! Prim designers hate me. >_<

From: Krazzora Zaftig Yeah that's what I was thinking but not sure and as for the female issue..you hit mine on the money. I'm tall, wide shouldered, and big chested! Prim designers hate me. >_< You should try fitting clothes on my Sauk form. Female, but with a fairly small butt and waist, only a modest chest size, yet broad shoulders, because she is a winged fox. The muscles to power those wings have to be somewhere!
