Theme:
Venice

Mission Statement:

To recreate a Venice that will be visually striking, displaying the endless possibilities of creation within Second Life, which will encourage entertaining events and commerce while enticing new residents for population growth . New residents will have a purpose in Venice, they will have a mission, which is to add new exciting and unique structures to Venice, and participate in the planning and execution of engaging events. As Venice grows, so will the opportunities for the intrinsic rewards that creativity in SL provides and of course, FUN.

- All residents will use pre-supplied building exteriors which will maintain the Venice theme.
- All buildings will be the same height unless permission from the group is given to deviate from the specifications. Most buildings will be 2 or 3 floors.
- Interiors can be anything the resident wishes.
- New residents will purchase their desired land from the current leader of the group which is the designated land holder.
- Regular city meetings will be held to insure the satisfaction of the community members and explore new growth venues. Topics along the lines of how to build, script, what is new in the city, and any assistance in the growth of the individual within the community and the community as an entity will be addressed.
- Residents will be encouraged to "hire" others to develop the economy.
- Some community service time may be required by each resident.
- A spirit of acceptance will be promoted to all, residents and visitors.

We wish to implement the following design:

The infrastructure of Old World Venice will be a canal system using functioning gondolas for transportation. One water way will be the main street which will be the location of many of the primary planned structures. There will be a secondary canal system that crosses the main road at various points, which will be available for residents to settle along and build their Venice home.

The gondolas will travel the canal via scripted movement. Residents and visitors will ride the gondolas through the canals. Prototypes of these gondolas exist and have been successfully tested.

As the gondolas sail down the canals, riders can view all the different structures the residents have created, stop and shop, or take a ride to scheduled event. A cathedral and opera shell will be two of the major event structures and will be built along the main canal. These structures will be adorned with Venetian art, formed first in the Second Life space that occupies Venice resident's minds, and then translated into in-world creation. Sidewalks in front of the structures will allow foot traffic. Bridges will span the canal often at a second story level providing numerous paths of exploration while adding to the ambience of the city.

The milestones for this project are as follows:

The creation of the infrastructure of the canal system, boardwalks, town layout, and gondola system.

The creation of a sewer system which will which lay partly underwater. It will be a maze of tunnels which will invite explorations and it will also be used for games and events.

The group builds, starting with the event centers, followed by stores.

The addition of residents and the construction of their homes.

A diagram of the layout of the city is included. It is a total of 96 x64 blocks. Each block is 4 x 4 meters. There are three large areas, one each for the planned opera shell and cathedral. There is one remaining for future addition of a third main event structure. Blue areas represent the canal system. The black areas represent the walkways and bridges. The pink areas are land to be developed by the residents.

There will be much more to Venice, this is just a brief outline of the collective mind of the group listed above. The wide expanse of what Venice will eventually be is beyond this proposal, but we as the group ask that you accept our proposal so that we can show you what Venice will be.

We are eager to start.

Thank You,
The Venice Group

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm......looks pretty neat to me, heh heh. It'd be quite interesting to float around on a gandola next to shops and stuff. Sounds like a good idea and some fun also. Good luck with it :D

The helicopter is not part of the venice proposal (I think).

Thank you(s) for posting the location of the gondolas.

They are extremely fun to ride. Everyone should try them out.
Remember to vote while you are there!
