Would anyone happen to know where I could find weapons for sale/free that I can modify? The best way for me to learn, personally, its to take apart objects so I can figure out how parts were made and prims manipulated. Thanks.

Places like Yadni's Junkyard will have boxes of freebie weapons that you can take apart. Pick the more recent additions, as some of the old stuff is pretty much junk nowadays.
