Flex Tail
05-31-2006 11:02
I've made a flex tail, for furry AVs, or animal avs. I think they look great, and I have 2 versions. IM me if youd like to see or buy one! :) (they're cheap) People seem to love em too, so.. judge for yourself :)

Well, I've made a Japanese-inspired heraldic banner. I've got a blank version for sale that's modifyable with the intent that someone could Edit Linked and slap on the texture they wanted for their flag.

I've done a cartoony elephant avatar with floppy ears, trunk and tail. I had lots of fun flying around with it :D

And I saw a big octopus by the Welcome Area, really cool, too...

Mostly some flexi flags that I have for sale. I also do custom flags or banners.
Made a couple of floppy hats, and some wacky hair.

A fox tail (Jeez that was difficult to pull off), and a scarf!

Oh, and a maccoroni noodle that sits on my head. I was bored. :D

I have been building a rotating water sculpture. Really anything using water should be rebuilt with flexi prims. It looks much more natural when the streams of water vibrate a little.

We did a scripted Animagical Tail that . . . well, it gestures. :) All automagical, too . . . just attach it and it does its thing. There's info about it over here: /invalid_link.html

Flexi-prim water
05-31-2006 13:52
I'm using flexiPrims to make the water for my swimming pool. Smoothly moving a flexiPrim with a script makes it... well, jiggle... and I find, with some tweaking, it simulates the ripples on the surface of a body of water much better than textures.

I've built a few geometric models (Dodecahedron, Tetrahedron, Cuboctahedron, Great Dodecahedron, Icosahedron and Small Stellated Dodecahedron) and wrote a script to control each panel of the model. I'd post a pic but it'd be useless to show the effect. I'll rez them on my plot in Lasiocampa (208,182) if anyone wants to check them out. There's also a control board under construction so you can have a go at modifying the variables.

I've also made flexible water. Made a small river with pools as both ends with 3 little water falls with rocks. When the wind picks up the water moves just enough that it covers more or less of the rocks, like real water. Love it. Even when you can't really see it move, the subtle shifts are enough that the flex still adds to the effect. It's on display in Nangim on the east side.

The only thing I've done that I didn't see mentioned so far is that I've made tents. I need more land just to put the tents somewhere so I can watch them move in the wind...

Thanks Jackal, I've three more movies uploaded to youtube.com now. I can't wait to see someone apply this to a flower of some kind (the phrase blooming marvelous comes to mind). Also Jackal, I love your signature line, what movie do I know that from "It's by will alone I put my mind in motion..." wouldn't be the film PI perhaps?

Wow... those are amazing! The YouTubes vid doesn't quite do them justice. Everyone intersted should see them in person... err, in secondPerson. Whatever. You know what I mean.

My favorite is the "Small Stellated Dodecahedron".

Cool, I will check out the movies later today. The sig-line is, as Rez Menoptra said, from the book "Dune" - but mangled ;) the original reads: "It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of Sapho that thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, the stains become a warning. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion."

That is the coolest thing I have seen in a long time. Note to self stea... cop... be inspired by Nand in with next abstract avatar.

As fo what I have done. I have made ball like shape out of flexies that I can use to hypnotize onlookers out of their L$. Thanks to the way flexies are rendered the rotating flexies become a tighter and tighter ball the close you get to it.

Thanks Rez and Jackal, unfortunately I've yet to read any Dune books and it was just from seeing the film that I picked up on the quote.

Cidixat, Very true about seeing them in person/SecondPerson(TM). The Small Stellated Dodecahedron does look great, I need to figure out a way of letting everyone play with the settings on all the different polyhedra (using the control board but without killing my prim count), you can get some interesting effects out of the SS-Dode.

Tasrill, :O I have got to see that AV once you're done. Oh and I wouldn't mind seeing your flexi-ball too =D.
