Alright ladies and gentleman. It's time for us to show our apprication to the lindens. My idea is one that may seem a little nuts, but bear with me. I suggest we make shrines to every linden in game, in different parts of the world. Seeing as the Lindens are kind of like the God's of the world, what better way to show apprication than to build shrines for all to see. The first shrine has gone up in front of my house in Immaculate (219, 53). And the winner is....dun dun duh dun
Haney Linden!
Now you may be asking yourself, "what can I do to help this great and daunting task that is making a shrine to every linden?". Well, there is one of 3 things you can do to help me out. A), the thing i really need help with, is people to own and upkeep 1 shrine to a linden. That means owning the land, owning the shrine and picture and such, and adding things to the shrine to help keep it looking great. I've built the temple, all you have to do is get a copy from me, a picture of the linden, buy the land and place them. Then paying the taxes on the land. It's that simple. The temple will fit on an 8 x 8 plot of land, so it's rather small, and therefore easy to upkeep.
B) Donations Donations Donations. I will be setting up a donation booth at Haney's shrine soon, and all donations i recieve there will go to the Linden Apprication Shrines. If the other owners feel they may need donations, they can place a donation booth on their shrine, and they will use those funds to upkeep their booth.
or C) If you don't want to upkeep the temple, just let me know. If you'd rather only own the land that i place the shrine on, i'll upkeep the temple myself. From the info i've recieved, there are between 20-30 lindens in game, and that's a lot of land to own for one person. Ecspecially on my limited funds.
Now, to finish getting this project off the ground, i need a few things. I'm gonna need an exact head count of all the lindens, and i'm gonna need to scout out some more plots for the other shrines. I'm gonna need candles and other paraphenailla for the temples (haney's only has 2 candles and an altar right now). And i'm gonna need headshots (preferably head and shoulders, but any picture will work as long as it looks good), of all of the lindens.
I appricate any help i could get from the community, and the response from haney on the shrine was great. I'm sure the lindens will love the shrines, and this is a great way to show apprication, for all to see.

I don't mind helping with a linden project. However, I dont' think that it should be a shirne. Maybe just a little park for each one. We could even craft a statue of them...heheh, of course we'll also have to put the mandatory birds on each statue.....

It's not really anything big really. A shrine i think looks really good. It's not like we're going to worship it or anything. Take a look at it and see what your think. All it really is is a little mini temple, with a pic of Haney, an altar type item, and two candles. I was thinking about making some birds to fly around the temple, and maybe even having, if the linden wants to, have them give the owner an item they think epitomizes them as an av, (i.e., haney's fish if he wants to), and have that item be placed on the altar too. But it's not like i'm planning on worshipping it, it's just for fun.

While I'm all for Linden appreciation, I have to say that I think anything with a religious "flavor" is probably a mistake. It's guaranteed to be offensive to someone, if not many people.
And there's no predicting how noobs, who are not aware of this thread, are possibly going to feel about it.

Well, you might not like the idea exactly, but go ahead and take a look at it before you make any judgements. It's not like i put crosses up all over it, and said "start worshipping the lindens now" or anything like that. And if someone wants to, i'm sure they can put up a park to some of the lindens. Maybe we can start making different things for each linden, like a park for Jeff, things like that. I'm open to ideas, but all I say is don't judge without first seeing the product.

I put the Lee Shrine up in one corner or Rose. Forgot to get the corodonites, so i will post them when i get a chance.
I'll also take this time to say that if someone has a problem with this idea, please come and talk to me personally. If you make a good enough point, or if enough people say they dislike this idea, I will stop, and remove the shrines. So far, all of the in-game responses I have gotten have been positive, so i ask that before you come on this forum to try and say you think a shrine is too religious esque, please go and look at them, so you have an idea of what i am talking about.
Look for more shrines to come up in the coming weeks.

Jeff Lindens Shrine is up in Mocha 22,128.
I talked to a lot of people in game yesterday, spent most of the day doing it too. All of the responses I got were good, so i'm planning on continuing on with my project. I'm going to place note card holders in the next few days, with a disclaimer stating that this shrine is for apprication only, and not worshipping. I may even start adding Linden Facts to the cards, do an interview with each linden...Gotta Catch them all.
Oh well, anyone interested in helping should IM me in game, or PM me here.

Great undertaking! I'll come check out some of the shrines tonight. As for people that are confusing this with religion, sorry to do this but lets look at certain meanings from the dictionary: shrine: A place at which devotion is paid to a venerated person venerated: To regard with respect devotion: synonym of love A shrine doesn't have to mean religion. It might have been better if Brad used the word 'Heros' rather than 'Gods'

The word "shrine" has been used in relation to personalities, activities, and objects as diverse as Elvis, spam, $ATHLETE, $FOOD (spam != food, thankyaverramuch), $DEITY, $ART, $FAMOUSPERSON, or $ANYTHINGATALL. Baseball Hall of Fame? The Alamo? Graceland? While I do agree that the words of choice to describe the Lindens and the builds could have been better selected, the one I saw in Rose last night didn't strike me as overtly religious. Bemused me, yes. (disclaimer: I'm not a devout anything, so YMMV) To those of you who are dubious, go check one of the shrines out and THEN make your decision. We have Linden fan clubs. IMO, I consider this undertaking of Brad's one of the many ways that people have shown appreciation of the Lindens albeit a more concrete one, relatively speaking.

If anyone deserves a shrine it's Andrew, Ben, and Char Linden. They put the ABC in Sacond Bife. Xavier

Let me start by saying I truly love what the Lindens have done for us in every aspect of Second Life. The list of their accomplishments goes on forever, and their attention to SL helps make this the fun environment we all love.
Having said that, I think I show my appreciation to them every month with my credit card. So what’s next? A shrine to Bill Gates, without him and Microsoft none of us would be here. A shine to Time Warner, without their cable modem I wouldn’t be here. A shrine to AT&T, without their DSL lines, a lot of others wouldn’t be here. A shrine to our local power companies……..and so on.
Although I agree that we all need something fun to build and do in World, and I am in NO WAY putting anyone down for doing this, IMHO the shrines are better than tea crates, this idea may be a little on the edge. To me it smacks of the teachers pet.

I couldn't resist saying this and I don't really mean it:
The initials of the Linden Appreciation Project are LAP.
So would that make someone who builds these shrines a LAPdog?

HEHE, great posts guys really, they are.
I guess now would be a good explination for why I decided to do this though. After moving my house about 3 or 4 times, i found a good spot in Immaculate. Shortly after buying the land, i realized that most of the land in front of my house had been bought up by Haney. I realized he did it to save the landscape, and i got to work on my house. Unfortunatly, I ran into a wall. I couldn't think of how i wanted to build my house, and i racked my brain for hours whenever I would be on. All that was there for a week or two was a giant wooden box with windows in front. So I decided to try and figure out a community project. While wandering around the trial area, I stopped by the sandbox of that area, and started talking to some of the newbies. Haney ended up coming by, and one of the newbies asked why he had the last name Linden, and why it wasn't one of the choices. Haney told him that he worked for Linden Labs, the creators of the game. Well, after some mingling, Haney left. The newbies started talking about wondering who made the game, and why they hadn't seen anyone who seemed to be a dev.
I looked dumbfounded at them as they disscussed it. Haney, who had just been here, and told them that they he worked for the people who created the world, but they didn't realize that he was one of the Linden reps. I told them they were just talking to one, and they didn't realize it.
That's when I decided to try and build something to the Lindens, who have to put up with a lot, whether it be run to some point in the world to free a newbie who's been caged in, or settle a conflict between two in-worlders. I also noticed that there really weren't any builds that seemed to show a lot of apprication to the Lindens. Sure, all of our builds show apprication to them, because we are making their vision come true, but I thought I would make something that could last, something that people could see and enjoy. So i decided to make the shrines.
I'm planning on adding notecards at each one, with a disclaimer at the beginning, and notecards that explain a few things about the linden. Kinda like trading cards for the Lindens. I'm also hoping to get the other shrines up within the week, when i get my next stipend.

Cool! A shrine for me? Awww... I've got warm fuzzies.
But uh... I should warn you that unless you want to provoke my vengeful wrath: no hollow, cut, physical torii (or tubes) in my shine! (At least until I get SL migrated over to Havok 2; then it will be OK.)
