If I want to make a cube with a different texture on each side, like a dice for example, would I need to use a different prim for each face? Can one prim have a different texture on different facets? What about buildings that have a different texture on the inner and outer walls? Do you have to create a second flat prim and apply it to the walls like wallpaper? Thanks for shedding any light on this!

In your edit window there's a button for "select texture" or something like that, it's right on the small basic edit window you get when in edit mode. If you select that button, afterwards your mouse will select only faces of prims, not whole prims, and you can paint your die faces seperately

Excellent, that's what I'd hoped. It seems dumb to have to use 6 prims to create one cube!
