Hi,
I am having a really hard time figuring this out and I hope someone can help me. I would like to find an easy way to make a bent pipe or worm shape in Maya. I know that I can do it by rotating, moving, and scaling each individual ring of CVs one at a time, but there has got to be an easier way.

I tried doing it by extruding a NURBS circle along a curve and then pinching the ends but no matter how I set the options I couldn't stop it from smushing into itself as it went around some of the bends except on the most simple of curves. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The bend deformer is your friend. You can find deformers in the animation section of Maya. Create deformers -> Nonlinear -> Bend. See the Maya Help for info on the parameters.

When you've got the bend the way you want it, you can make it permanent by deleting construction history on the object.
