100% transparent face?

Hi all, I've built myself a small scenery box out of a 10x10 hollow box. I have applied the scenery to the inner faces, but want to make the outer faces transparent. Unfortunately whenever I try to set the transparency level to 100, it won't go above 90. Is it possible to set a face full-transparent without a transparent texture?
If not does anyone know where I can find a freebie full-transparent texture? :)

Thanks

I dropped you a box with white, black and alpha (transparent) textures.

Thanks a stack-I take it that means no 100% transparent colour then? ;)

If you could see the colour it would not be 100% transparent. However, you could try ticking "Select Texture" in the top of the edit box, then select the texture tab, and set the colour via the right hand square (actuallly in the middle) and try different colours there.

That colour picker seems to work better on bright textures, working perfectly on white, able to change that to any other colour.

You can also run a script to set the transparency to 100%

Thanks, I'm aware of being able to do it in script, but I was looking for a way to do it with the props tab. It's ok, I'll give in and use the alpha texture :)
I intend to spend some time building a decent scripted set of privacy panels with selected scenes at some stage, when I do that I'll use the script option :)

There is file that you can edit that allows transparency to go all the way to 100 in the edit window. I only know how to find it on the Mac, I'm sure Windows users can find the same file.
  1. Find the Second Life program, right click on it and choose "Show Package Contents"
  2. Browse in the new window to Contents/Resources/skins/xui/en-us
  3. Open floater_tools.xml and search for "Transparency"
  4. Right after that you will see <spinner ... />. Inside this block replace max_val="90" with max_val="100".
  5. Save file.
  6. Repeat this every time you download a new viewer
If you use a different language SL viewer then you need to edit the floater_tools.xml file in one of the other language directories (other than en-us). You will need to search for whatever word is before the transparency spinner in your language in the edit window.

The easiest method is to apply a 100% alpha texture to the faces that you want to be completely transparent. There are a lot of them already in-world, for free, or you can make your own with any app that can save a 32-bit TGA file.

With a script you can set the transparency level to any value. I use this a lot to make something that is textured appear or vanish, on scripted command. Changing the transparency value and changing the texture itself are two different methods.

There is also a UUID Key that produces a 100% transparent texture surface. Again, you'd have to use a script to apply that.

I recall the Linden reason for stopping the slider controls at 90% was to prevent new builders from too easily making completely invisible things and losing them, and to prevent noob griefers from using 100% invisible prims to block access or otherwise cause trouble. They made it so you need at least a basic understanding of building and/or scripting to make true invisibility.

In Windows, it's under Program Files\SecondLife\Skins\xui\[language].
