I decided to start a thread on this so as to not further derail Isablan's question... Vlad, I loved your tutorial - it made lots of sense and I was able to create a quick little vase....
But... I really need a step by step on the SculptyPaint - I tried Googling and though I found plenty of references to tuts- I didn't really find an actual "OK, start here" sort of thing.
Even the writer of the thing - for which I am grateful, don't get me wrong!- does not offer an actual tut.
I need to know simple basic stuff, how do I get more than one model at the same time? The author say there is a copy a to be tool, bt I could not find it... I am thinking you can take multiple copies and attach them in order to create shapes? I don't know.
So please, if anyone nows where one is found... TIA

Mm when I started with sculptypaint, I didn't know a thing about sculpties. But learned from the last half-year working with them. And changed the software what I personal needed, and fixed bugs that personal annoyed me. You must know of the 500 people that download sculptypaint, actually one person of the 500; takes the time to thank me or donate me 1L$ or more. It's more selling sculpties I create with them, that provides me an income to create new free creation software. I put down some tutorials, and explaining how certain buttons work, and try to update those changes if possible. Those can be found on the sculptypaint tutorials /download site. The Sculptypaint - Tips & Tricks // Tutorial #03 Heart shaped box are recent tutorials I added. http://www.xs4all.nl/~elout/sculptpaint/tuto/Creating low polygon models is one thing, getting them to work in SL is another thing, it sounds strange; but working with sculpties for the last 6months, almost every week I still learn something new/could be done better or bypass problems I had in the past. For sculptypaint; I guess explore it a bit; what the different buttons and tools can do. You must know that SL renders sculpties like 32*32 ish. So forcing your model to 32*32 in the stone-tool might help, getting like sl results. Mostly I work with models 8*8 or 16*16, so the first and second degree of lod stays ok, without turning your sculpt into a big mess zooming out. I added new tools in time, currently I mostly work now with the arch/point & sub-tool for sculpty creation now. It's more I wrote the tool, just for my own needs, I dont have the time or funding to create tons of how-to tutorials. Why its free? Well I wrote it in opensource software, use some opensource software created by friends, once I put it up for sale; people will annoy me to death I guess, with bugs still around, and not up to date tutorials. Several people provide loads of info on sculpty creation on the forums or inworld. Learn from that, and get inspired by others, and experiment a lot (on the betagrid; testing them out) and contact certain sculptie creators how to fix problems I would say. In sculptypaint I just work with 1 model, you can copy it to a buffer in the morph-tool. but thats it for the moment.

Hi,
This is probably a really off the wall question, but is it possible to export an item/photo into Sculptypaint and have the program recreate it in 3d form or at least get it to the point where it can be tweaked?
I have just started reading about Sculptypaint and wanted to ask the question before I forgot it.
Thanks.

Cel- Thanks really for Sculpty Paint- I hope I didn't sound ungrateful before- it was not my intent. I do understand that you did the community a service by giving away your software. Thing is I am such a noob at the whole building thing that even if your tutorial is crystal clear to others, I do not know enough about it to really understand it- that's why I was asking about different tutorials on how to use it.
On related topic, I did try to donate to your efforts and got this :
"U hebt een ongeldig bedrag ingevoerd. Zorg dat alle leestekens op de juiste plaats staan en dat u alleen het numerieke gedeelte van het bedrag invoert. Als het bedrag bijvoorbeeld $5,00 USD is, dan voert u 5,00 in."
I haven't a clue what it means... /me scratches head ...

I think Sculptypaint is nice for creating like 'basic' geometric and organic shapes. If you want to do animals/humans etc. I guess the higher end 3D software is better for that.
It dont have the option to load a reference picture, into it at the moment. And I dont plan to make an .obj/3D model loader to sculpt converter.

Hey Amaranthim, I was curious too...

so, as far as Babelfish can tell ( http://babelfish.altavista.com/) (Dutch to English), it says: "You have introduced an invalid amount. Care that all leestekens at the correct place stand and that you only sail in the numerical part of the amount. If the amount is for example $5,00 USD, then you 5.00 sail in." Don't forget to swap the decks and "shiver me timbers" as you "sail in the numerical part" Gotta love Babelfish and their rock solid translations. Dutch-lish for the win.

Yay- success - anyone wanting to donate to the SculptyPaint creator - you need to use a comma rather than a decimal point or it won't go thru -

I believe that you can also support Cel's project by joining his group in world, there is a 1,000L charge to join the group if I remember correctly that helps fund the project too. I suppose Cel would probably have no problem accept donations in world directly if Paypal is causing you a problem but I suppose I should let him speak for himself on that.
Thanks Cel for your efforts on producing such a great tool and offering it to us for free.

Well- I was able to donate via PayPal when I changed the decimal point to a comma- so that worked out. And in another thread I got my answer as to what was what - I had misinterpreted the scope of Sculpty Paint- as I sd I am a total noob to this. So someone mentioned elsewhere it is to produce items that would be made i a lathe in RL - ok- now I get it - Not really what I was intending to produce but nonetheless a great tool and it may serve to inspire other avenues of creation.

Hi Eazel, first time I heard about blurry buttons. You could try to run it from processing itself as well? I'm working with XP here as well on one of my computers. The large sculptimages in sub and morph tools are indeed a bit blurry, but somehow the graphics of the buttons should be ok?!
Not sure it has to do with graphic card drivers, or opengl?
