I have recently built a house and am very happy with the outcome but I have a question. Why do some of my textures show textures from another room?

Example: My floor is a purple marble with a slight tint. I can see a curtain on the floor below.

Is this because the curtain is a certain type? Or is it my floor that is set wrong?

without seeing it in person, i would imagine its the issue that SL has with 2 alpha channels meeting.

What does this mean and what happens when they meet? Does that cause the textures to ghost through?

The marble texture that you used was inappropriately saved as 32-bit .tga format before being imported, instead of as 24-bit format. All 32-bit textures are treated as having transparency, even if in fact they are 100 percent opaque. Read the sticky note titled "Transparency and Alpha Channels: The Definitive Guide" at the top of the texture tips forum for a detailed explanation.

To fix this, you will have to replace that marble texture with one that is NOT a 32-bit texture.

If the texture is full-perms, you can view the texture, export it to your hard drive (File menu, save texture as), open it with a graphics program that can handle .tga or Targa format, Save it as 24-bit .tga, and then re-upload it to SL (which will cost you L$10). Apply that fixed marble texture to your floors.

Some of the textures in the Library section of your inventory have this problem. At least one marble texture and one granite texture that I am aware of. To save those to your hard drive, you will first need to copy that texture to your own texture folder in inventory. You can't save a copy from the one viewed in the Library folder.

Yup. And it gets REALLY strange when you're trying to use a library texture that doesn't in any way look like it should be alpha / 32-bit.

Fast way to check. Turn on "Highlight transparent" in the View menu. Any 32-bit textures will turn red. Even if, like that marble texture, they don't look like a 32-bit texture.

It Worked... Thank you SOOOOoooo much. I went around and changed several textures that had the ghost effect and now all is good.

What happens if you

have a 32 bit tga file, but not of the pixels are actually transparent, and
you save it as a png?

Will the fauz-transparnecy be saved?

Hmmm.... seems like it would still save the faux-transparency, since the 32 bit file is shoving in an alpha channel.. but not sure on this one personally =/
