How may one go about making the curved prongs of a fork or such like that? Is there a tutorial about making smooth curves? All my building attempts have been rather ridged and blocky thus far.

If I wanted help with curves and other natural-looking organic shapes in SL, I'd ask someone who builds Furry avs. :p

Hi Kujila, a torus shape is often used to make curved tails or horns. So you might try manipulating one of those prim shapes around a bit :) Just try cutting away a section and stretch it around untill it resembles the tine of a fork. You can also use the advance cut option as well to make the surface of the tine flat if you want. Good luck.

Practice torturing your prims for a bit. Play with twisting, dimpling, all that fun stuff.

i can think of a number of different approaches depending on the look you were going after:

- Spheres: 95% hollow, maximum cut (if you want it thin, otherwise say .45 / .50), and then dimple one end as far up as you like -- stretch the shape to get the curve you want

- Cylinders: 95% hollow, cut .55 / 1.0 (or whatever works), and make the Z size very thin. You can make it REALLY thin by changing it briefly into a sphere and dimpling it

- Torus as mentioned. As well as playing with hollowing and cutting, you can taper it if you want a sharper point
