To rotate or not to rotate ?

You know those presentation tables that rotate ? Like, for cake or valuable items ? I wanted to make something like that with two pirms - base and rotating table. I put a rotation script into the table and then linked it with the base. Now the base is rotating as well, although i wanted it not to move.

What did I do wrong or is that simply the way it is ?

the last link in linking should be the prim with the script in, it will be yellow if you did it right and is referred to or called the root prim.

Unlink and relink but click it last then link all together.

How are you telling the top to rotate? you might consider *unlinking* the top and bottom. it is inconvenient, but at least the top will rotate separately.

Otherwise, you should probably make the base he root prim (like he said, above) and then rotate the top as a child prim.

This is similar to the problem of opening and losing a door, which has been discussed a lot. Try searching for that.

I bet you meant to say "closing", but given the current asset server problems, you might be right! ;) (Typo of the Day Award? :D )

1. Remember that anything rotating using llTargetOmega (slow rotations etc.) is not really rotating in world, just client side. So this will only rotate the table top, but none of the objects actually on the table. Except when these are actually linked to the table top.

2. Remember to either make the table base root prim when linking the two pieces. So actually the one which DOESN'T contain the script... (Where you will end up with the situation as described above). Or not link the rotating part to the base at all. (Which will allow you to also make the things on the table top rotate, as you can link them as childs to the table top.)

3. When not linking the two parts, you need a different solution to manipulate/move/sell them as one. Easiest is to take the whole selection as one inventory item.
When you plan on selling/distributing this combination though, some kind of scripted solution to keep base and top together is probably necessary.
