Transparent Disguise?

Hi There!

I was in a skybox the other day and there was a fellow working inside of what seemed like a invisible dome.

He was working on a some quite large projects on the inside-but from the outside it looked like it was the same grassy area.

I'd like to incorporate this into a build....
Where there are walls and a normal room inside - but to the outside public it looks like the same scenery - as though there was not any room at all.

Could anyone fill me in on this, if it rings any bells and maybe how I could accomplish it?

Thanks!

_sandy.

This could be an Invisiprim. Same texture that is used in making heels invisible in high heel shoes.

Or maybe your draw distance was set way low in preferences?

yes, I did a bit of investigating into that.

But the invisprim still shows what's *inside* the room.

and that would be counterproductive! hehe

hmm...the same scenery meaning what's inside is just invisible, or covered by a large hill or what?

An invisiprim would only partially work, you see. Only things qith alpha texures would disappear, which means that there would be some seemingly random objects floating about (And wandering around) in that 'field' of the invisiprim.

An actual dome just hollowed with the inside texture as clear, and the outside as grass, would make it look like..well..a large hill (Though rather perfect. A sculpty would help), and on the inside you could do whatever you wanted, and not have random items floating about in midair to outsiders ;)

it just sounds like an invisable texture to me. And you can't apply two textures to a scuplty, sadly thay have no faces.

No but if you make a big dome, and then put a big sculpty over it, and make the sculpt phantom, then it would still disguise it and prevent entry.

Sculpties are invisible from the inside (Except where parts face inward at all)

It sounds to me like a hollowed sphere cut to make a dome and a transparent texture applied on the inside and an opaque texture applied on the outside. A texture on the outside that blended with the surround terrain textures would look just like part of the terrain. And the transparent textue on the inside would make it look like you were outside when you were in the dome.

I haven't done that with a dome but I've done with a house I built once. Simple brick house from the outside and like you were standing on ground without being inside anything when you were inside. Sort of strange feeling when you change clothes. :)
