If an object is copyable then every time the owner rezzes the object they are actually rezzing a copy, right? Is there any way to avoid that and still allow copies?
I'd like for an owner to be able to give copies of an object to another AV, but always keep their own object intact with a consistent object key. The object key is tied to a web server with a service the owner has purchased. It seems to me at this point that the only way to ensure integrity of the purchased object for the AV is to make it no-copy. Am I missing something?
Thanks

it's pretty much all or nothing. the permissions aren't very flexible so it's copy at will, or transfer at will with no restrictions. enabling both will essentially mean complete loss of control over who gets it.
i don't know of scripty stuff to prevent it, but even if there was, you could easily disable scripts for a parcel to make the transfer.
if you're doing web connection, i guess it's possible to have the object "phone home" and check if it's a valid copy and disable some features if not. but it technically won't prevent the item from being copied or whatever the sl permissions allow.

Make the object no-copy, and provide a way (e.g., menu or pay $0) for owner to give a copy, or for another av to request one. This would generate an email to an object you keep in-world that has a copy of the object in inventory, and gives it.

Thanks Learjeff! Really creative idea. I like it a lot. I had not considered e-mails. I'll have to give that a shot.
