I'm getting really close to tearing down my house so I can do something else on my lot. What are the tools or techniques I need to get it in a box so in the future, if I need it again, I can rez it all together instead of messing around lining up the parts that are too far apart to link?

Two ways.
1. Coalescence. If you feel like gambling (a while ago some folks reported having problems with this, but it's worked fine for me the few times I've tried it) or you don't want to spend any money, you can just use the coalesce feature. Just select all the parts of the house and Take them simultaneously. They will end up in a single coalesced object in your Objects file (the icon looks like a bunch of boxes stacked up). When you rez it again, all the pieces will appear in the same relationship to each other that they had when you took them. It is a good idea to have an "Edit" window up when you rez it; that way they will all be selected and you can move the entire house as a whole.
2. The more uptown solution is to use Rez-Faux. Always works fine - people use it to box houses for sale. There are other similar products too, I believe.

I've used Rez-Faux, its cheap and it works great. You can even wear your house as a hat, which is amusing for about five minutes

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I'll probably mess around with more than one of them.

The best script I've found was "Jack In the Box". Very easy to use.

Just remember if your build is too big, and you're going to try the coalescence method, to disable "Limit Select Distance" and "Disable Camera Constraints" in the debug menus so that you can get everything in one select pass (this also is considering that you don't have debris situated next to the item).

You put the main box down, and then you drag the helper script into all the parts of your house (Link it up as much as possible, so you're dealing with the fewest parts.) It gives you confirmation when you do this. When you've done every part, then you take all the parts, put them in the box, and you're done. You can then take the box out, and it gives you menu. You can rez your house, de-rez your house, or package it up for sale.
It couldn't be much easier...

From: DanielFox Abernathy You put the main box down,
--------------------- You mean the box called "Rez-Faux 2.0 - Create a new Package"?
and then you drag the helper script into all the parts of your house (Link it up as much as possible, so you're dealing with the fewest parts.) It gives you confirmation when you do this.
-------------------- The helper script you refer to is "Rez-Faux Positioner 2.0" ? For example, I have a group of linked parts and I drag the script onto any part of that group or does it have to be the root(yellow part) of that said group?
When you've done every part, then you take all the parts, put them in the box, and you're done.
-------------------- You mean you take a copy of all your objects back into inventory and then drag them into the contents folder of the same box we created in step one?
You can then take the box out, and it gives you menu. You can rez your house, de-rez your house, or package it up for sale.
--------------------------- I have a last question, for items you want to sell, before using Rex-Faux do you need to set the item for sale in the standard editor or it doesn't matter?
It couldn't be much easier... --------THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY!

I'm currently working on a version that handles whole sims... perhaps even multiple sims, as a nice "backup" tool for estate owners

a rez-faux sidenote

I've noticed with large builds and limited space (where the walls of the build literally go to the property line), that parts of the build can get hung in a bad spot if the neighbors have object entry turned off. The script seems to need a larger area for all the parts to swing into place which, if the parts are trying to swing into an object-restricted area, will fail.
But it's still a very nice system; I use it for all of my structures.

At least you can try talking to the owners of the other parcels to temp allow their parcels open for object placement till you setup the house......

I've just been selecting everything and taking it into inventory as a combined item. It works pretty good for personal use and I haven't run into a problem yet. I'd use a rezzing device if you plan on selling things though.

From: Gusher Castaignede Before transfering, did you set the scripts properies to copy and modlify? I wouldn't suggest making them modify... but if they check llGetOwner in the state entry (so only the owner can use them) a simple reset should fixe that... you can even add it to the scripts for the door //-- insert in the default state changed( integer vBitChanges ){ if (CHANGED_OWNER & vBitChanges){ llResetScript(); } }
