I have been experimenting with building items in SL and so far seem to be getting the hang of it - one thing I've noticed though is that you can't take out just a section of an object, or if you CAN, I haven't figure out how to do it.
An example of what I mean is when I tried to build a house - I started with a cube, resized it to a larger size, then I wanted to knock out one section of it for the door, but it wouldn't let me.
Is there any way to do this? I know that you can just create four walls then adjust them so that there is a space for a door, etc. but it would be a lot easier to knock out a section for the door.
Please let me know if I'm not making sense or if there's a way to do this.
TIA

TIA My spelling will probably be wrong, but someone will correct that. The spelling police or something. But what your asking for is Boolean cuts *I believe* and SL does not offer that (yet). A

*sigh* Guess I'll just wait then for that little feature.
On a slightly related/different topic, is there any conversion/compatibility between SL and Sketchup? I found a post on here, but it was in German (I think) and when I translated the text, it said that it was POSSIBLE, but its not easy or elegant.

best way is to go look how other ppl have done it... prims, hollow, cut, phanotm alpha textures, even particles there is lots of ways to do it, even sculpties you have to figure out what way you like best and what works for your build -LW

you can rez a box hollow it ....do a path cut to remove one wall, then replace with 3 prims...
Essentially there is no cheating way other than maybe having a door texture as a wall thats phantom. You will also need to remember that doing ANYTHING like this tends to mean that the INSIDE textures are classed as ONE texture
