Not sure if this should be here in this forum or not....

I want to make an instrument that plays short musical pieces.

#1...what is the best way to record a section of music for upload into SL? (program you use etc?)

#2...once you have several sound bites in SL is there a way to link them to flow continuously? ((script etc.)

Any advice would be great. Thanks.

I recommend Adobe Audition. I've been using it for many years now. It's a fantastic program. It'll set you back $349 US, but if you're into audio, it's worth every penny (and if you look into what other professional quality audio editors cost, you'll see that Audtion is actually way inexpensive).

If you don't want to spend money, there are some decent freebies out there. Audacity and GoldWave are popular.

You can script an object to play the clips in order, sure. If you want your music to be portable, that's the way to go. Don't ask me how though; scripting's not my thing.

Another way to do it is to upload your songs in whole to web server, and then just stream them onto your land the same way you'd stream in a radio station or a movie. You won't be able to take the music with you when you travel, but you also won't have to worry about slicing it into a million pieces or about scripting.

Adobe Soundbooth will be Audition's replacement come July 1st for $199. Much cheaper (by $150) and will be much easier to use if you're familiar with other products from Adobe.

You can check out a 2nd beta version of Soundbooth here:
